We had a hilarious lesson today about following the prophet and how all our prophets are so much better than other religious leaders. Our teacher and class said a number of ridiculous things. The most ridiculous was an attack on the catholics.

The teacher read a news article about the chaotic papal succession process. He then said, "I'm so glad that Mormons don't rely on worldly wisdom to choose leaders."

So true.

Mormons, on the other hand, do it so much better. We play "last man standing." The next prophet is whoever happens not to die first. Why is this system so superior to the catholic system? Because God supposedly kills off those that he doesn't want to be prophet. Pleasant guy.

The results of this "inspired system" is that we get nut jobs like Harold B Lee, Joseph Fielding Smith, and Ezra Taft Benson for prophet rather than the more sane and moderate leaders that were also in the running. LDS apologists now have to answer for all the stupid things that those men taught. Their jobs would be so much easier if Hugh B Brown would have been chosen rather than the radicals that made it in by default.
