Depends on what consists of a meal.

Some people eat five very light meals a day.

Some people eat two heavier meals.

I guess it also depends on your personal health and metabolism.

I'm happier eating very light meals throughout the day.

This reminds me of the time I came across a raiding party of orcs in the Midgewater Marshes...

3 most days....sometimes a late breakfast and then supper @5PM....mostly good healthy food and spirituality has got fuck all to do with it. After a lifetime of being overweight I took control of my life 12 years ago and dropped 150 lbs. No magic pills...just good food and less of it.

I had a big appetite throughout my childhood and teen years. I'm 30 years old now, and two a day feels about right, and three a day feels failry gluttonous unless they were light.

work fine for me. DH is diabetic and needs to have just a nibble of something at bedtime - he has to take medicine with it.

Seems to work for us.

Everyone has opinions and books/videos/programs to sell about those opinions.

Grazing works best for me -- five to seven very small servings a day. Sometimes, though, I'll have a big meal and not be hungry for the rest of the day.

Other primates graze, so maybe there's a biological case for us doing the same.

As for any connection between how many meals and spirituality? Hell, there isn't even agreement on what spirituality is. There are even more people wanting to sell you their opinions on the matter. But if you spend a lot of time thinking about food and whether it's time to eat, then it's probably getting in the way of your spiritual quest. In other words, it's probably best to eat in a way that food doesn't become an issue for YOU.

I follow the directions of my diabetic counselor; three low carb meals with sensible portions and 2 light snacks. Drinking a ton of water helps.

I usually only eat once a day, and it's a very small meal because I start feeling full after only a few bites. I think my stomach is smaller than normal, because I've been this way since childhood.

3 meals plus 1 or 2 snacks in mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Eating smaller and more often is healthier.

Other sources will say the opposite. Eating more often means that your poor digestive system never gets a rest.

1. I have observed that eating regularly is helpful. By this I mean meals at regular times and appropriately balanced.
2. I am, by nature, a person who forgets to eat. I observed first back at Fort Knox in the summer of 1965 that I was better when I ate at the fixed times. Eating on a regular time helped.

here in nippn, seems "danjiki"(fasting) has gotton more attentions for a decade or so among the health/beauty conscious, even from younger generations....

teaching danjiki-dojo(class), weekend 2 meals out, fasting with juice, etc....

http://search.yahoo.co.jp/search?p=japanese++buddhism++fasting&aq=-1&oq=&ei=UTF-8&fr=top_ga1_sa&x=wrt

has anyone taken fasting courses or fasting-cure in hospital???

as for the # of diabetic patients in here nippn, almonst none in during ww2 and right after because of lack of food, about 60,000 in 60s, 8 million in 2010....

so, 3 meals a day is under some kind of conspiracy???
