Feeling guilty for scratching the paint off the crotch of a Joseph Smith

I was helping my mil with some cleaning. I was having to listen to her chatter on about Mormonism. As I was dusting, I scratched the gold paint off of the very large statue she has of Joseph Smith.

So a couple years later I'm feeling bad about my vandalism. I'm thinking of sending an apology. I don't know if she even suspected me. Should I just let it go, or apologize?

I wouldn't apologize. If she asks, simply remind her the damage was caused by over-use.

haha! i have no advice...just lots of laughing.

Actually, I do have advice. If it would ease your conscience, then tell her. If it were me, I probably would because my conscience can be really annoying.

How would one apologize for intentionally giving him more exposure?

Not criticizing, I'm just wondering how that conversation would go.

"Hi, MIL. I have to confess that when we were cleaning, your JS statue annoyed be to no end, so I defaced it. I'm really sorry. I'll buy you a new one."

This just made me laugh out loud. Because Joseph Smith was a fraud. I wouldn't even feel bad about it. Good job. LOL.
