Emailing resignation question

I've been off and on this forum since i was fifteen and now I'm finally 18 and I am looking to officially resign from the church.

I saw that some have successfully emailed their resignation and i'm wondering if anyone here has tried that and what their experience was.

Also, do i NEED my membership number? I just moved to college and I got rid of any temple recommends long ago. also I would prefer not to engage with the local bishopric...

I know I should have thought about this but the past couple of months have been hectic.

I really appreciate any advice/help :) thanks

Many people have had success through email.

No you do not need the number. Just your name, birthdate, and last attended ward.
