The Deseret News article (apologies since it's been discussed a couple times already) http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865586381/Iffy-blessings-and-paying-tithing.html?pg=all:

“Give me back 1/10th of everything that is mine — that I have given to you” — and I will:

“Open…the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” The Lord will rain down so many blessings that there won’t be enough room in your “storehouse” to contain them, you will be blessed “to overflowing.”

So......God gives us everything......so we give a tenth back.....so he gives back "to overflowing"...and some of these blessings are material ("increase"), so are we supposed to then give back 1/10th again of what God gives us back....so that he can pour out more blessings.....ad nauseum?

It's like a frikkin' Abbot & Costello routine.

I've seen some awfully poor faithful tithe payers over the years.
They usually lived on the other side of town, in a ward of their own.

Funny how there's no actual correlation between paying tithing and being blessed. I guess the poor people who pay tithing believe things would be even worse if they weren't paying. Believers can justify anything.

"I will gladly bless you Tuesday for a tithe payment today..."

Ages are showing!

Think of people wearing good luck charms or bracelets. They think good things will happen. That's how mormons think that paying tithing will benefit themselves -- replace "luck" with "blessings."

Throw in a bit of selective reasoning, self-fulfilled prophecy, and ignoring conflicting info, and voila, "tithing blessings!"

Just tell god that you won't bother paying any tithing and then he won't have to bother with giving you bounteous blessings. This will save both you and god some time and effort.

When TSSC gives me 10% of their stash, I'll gladly give them 10% of my cash.

Sounds like a fair exchange right?

Yup...it's a vicious circle!

It can also be linear:

Person A earns 100k/year. Gives 10k to church.

Person A hires person B for music lessons for $1000/year. B Gives $100 to church.

Person B hires C to mow lawn for 500. Church gets $50.

C hires D to babysit for $100. Church gets $10.

Then they all get copious monetary blessings and go around again!
