I just received a "Breaking News Alert" from the D-News. (Also have the Trib alerts sent to my Email)

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865589877/LDS-Church-combines-Relief-Society-and-Young-Women-general-conference-meetings-adds-Primary-girls.html

Looks like they're combining womens meetings. Why is this breaking news? Sheesh.

I think this shows that the Morg views all females either as children - who will all get infantile talks, or as baby machines regardless of age.

While there are specific age-classes for males, females are lumped together in the same 'mothers' class

Questions from the Never-Mo here in the cheap seats:

1.) Do boys who have reached the age of 8 and are baptised get to go to the Priesthood GC meetings?

2.) Could this be part of something larger that TSCC is developing to try and hold off the women who want the priesthood?

Thanks from the cheap seats.

1. No only boys twelve years and older attend any priesthood meetings. 11 and younger are still primary age.

2. Probably not. The amount of women in the church that want the priesthood is relatively smaller than the ones who dont want it, at least in my experience... I think this is more due to the fact that general relief society conference and general young women conferences were only held once a year (Spring or Fall). Now by combining the two they can do them twice. (Spring and Fall along with conference).

I mean in reality they aren't really getting anything different, so there is nothing here that would stave off a push for women priesthood.

Cool and thanks for the explaination!

I think the Church must be really hurting. They must be considering that to allow the primary girls age 8-11 to attend the women's general conference session will serve the need to aggressively begin the young women's indoctrination program at a younger age so as to retain more active membership later on.

It is akin to the lowering age of missionary males from 19 to 18 years of age, and the females from 21 to 19.

So I wonder, will TSCCult start allowing dad's to bring their 8-11 year old sons to general Priesthood meeting in the not too distant future?

I hope you're right (that they're hurting). I thank the gods of unbridled heathenism that the Internet is around now & I got to researching before they could suck my step-daughter in along with her oldest brother. I seriously am afraid I would have snapped and gouged that Stepford Mo's bug eyes out who ran "activity girls" in this town if my baby girl would have come back extolling the virtues of not being a "licked cupcake" or saving herself for some douchebag returned missionary just so she can marry in a fricking green apron in a tacky "temple" with cheesy hotel lobby decor.

They obviously need to stop girls getting any career ideas while they are young. Think about it. Schools now tell girls they can become anything they want, that they can chose to be married or not and that they are equal to men. TSCC has to do something about these dangerous and "wordly" ideas before these little girls turn into, gasp, feminists.

The leaders have been concerned for a long time about the transition of YW into RS and the RS is pretty boring compared YW. The YW had nothing in common with the older sisters and never socialized with them in any way. When I was in the stake and ward RS presidencies we had special activities to welcome the YW into RS, there was not a very successful result. I see this as a move to make the primary girls and YW feel more comfortable when they leave YW and join the RS women. It removes the age separation between the younger and older sisters and keeps mothers and daughters together in a church conference setting. Plus it gets all the women to two women's conference meetings a year instead of one for each. The primary age girls will make an early entrance to these meetings which have been geared for older women. Which means the talks will have to be even more infantile, if that is possible.

well, I am single and 30 and going to a singles ward. they'd have to redo everything to make me comfortable in a "regular" RS. They would need to scale back the marriage, motherhood, homemaking crap cause I don't I have any of those.

Agreed, RS in a family ward is not a comfortable place for single women either.

That crap was incredibly boring as an adult. I can't imagine dragging an 8 year old through that. What 8 year old wants to go to another church meeting?

I guess it's okay, but odd..the boys all have a single conference, so I guess they don't want to waste time talking at all those conferences anymore.

I love how they put RS Conference close to GC, but refuse to make it apart of GC...

Just a guess, but maybe the change is due to practical reasons. Many people outside the US have to travel significant distances for those meetings. The church may get better attendance by combining them. The younger girls will feel special and bond with other LDS females. More indoctrination opportunity at a younger age.

These conferences are broadcast online or on TV just like the priesthood meeting was this year so the women can stay home and watch. It also makes it so those who didn't attend the YW conference or the RS conference will now attend both conferences, so if they want to attend in person travel actually doubles. I agree with the special bond and more indoctrination aspect.

Let the indoctrination begin from an even younger ageā€¦.

This is the lamest "breaking news" ever. Also, why does the RS presidency insist on looking so eerily similar?!

I'm guessing they are told what to wear, just like the priesthood and their white shirts and ties.

The comments under the article are also pretty vomit-inducing. I'm guessing that DN, just like TSCC, doesn't allow opposing views?

If you make a comment that is not in line with praising the story, they will a.) not publish the comment, and b.) E-mail you feedback that says they couldn't publish your comment because it was "off-topic." "Off-topic" is always their way to address disagreeing comments.

Expect female "leaders" talking from the pulpit in littler girlie voices.

OMG. Gagging at this comment:

I love being a member of this wonderful church! So grateful my parents accepted the gospel when it was presented to them. It has truly being a blessing in our lives! Inspiring changes like this testifies to me that the Lord is at the helm of this great and marvelous work! What a joy to be led by a prophet of God in these turbulent yet exciting times!

If God is at the helm of the church, shouldn't it have been organized perfectly from the get go? Clearly, the constant stream of changes the church is always making can only testify to the fact that the men leading it are in no way inspired by, let alone talking directly to, a perfect god.

The eight year old girls are the eventual producers of new tithe payers. Every decision is about money.

They want young and old together so they can talk about the evils of porn and how all male members are addicted to it. That way the teenage girls can start brow beating their boyfriends about porn just like their moms do to their husbands.

I had to laugh at one of the comments sent from:

suzyk#1 Mount Pleasant, UT

I believe that would be an incredible experience to be there in the presence of those humble young and older women together. As always, another inspired change.

AS ALWAYS, ANOTHER INSPIRED CHANGE?

Oh Brother, How is that inspired?

My Head Just Exploded!
