For converts - was Mormonism's Native American Jew/Christian Primitivist narrative appealing?

I was born into this fantasy so I don't have much to judge it by other than the cultural appeal (never that much) in being a socially cohesive thing that I understood and often loathed but at times enjoyed as something comfortable in being known. The historicity appealed only to me when I feel my white man's burden guilt in being the descendent of people like Brigham Young and learned about him and his taking over Utah from American Indians.
