Googled it because I was curious, and then I looked at the dates of the forums I was reading, and realized they were from 2012! I didn't realize people suspected alzheimers that far back.
It will be interesting to see how he does this sunday in GC (it is this sunday right? i seem to remember being invited lol).
Has it gotten worse since 2012?
It will also be interesting to see how things are handled at GC if he really is in decline.. because some of things said on the forum lead me to think he would definitely be much worse almost three years from their 2012 posts.

Interesting rumor. Apparently his daughter has taken a lot of control. She monitors everything that makes it to his desk and decides what he will sign off on. She has fired some minor people who worked around him. It's enough to keep everyone off balance, including the other apostles. Nothing of any real importance is getting done, and no one dares try to start any new initiatives.

And somewhat ironic that a woman is now controlling behind the scenes. Certain women's movements might do well to take notice of that fact, and publicize it.

Interesting if true... It's hard to see any of the Great Old Ones deferring to a woman, even TSM's daughter. She can't possibly hold an official position that high on the COB org chart.

If she is throwing weight behind the scenes, you can bet that once TSM kicks it and she's unprotected, the long knives will be coming out.

scenes. Clare Middlemiss, David O McKay's secretary ran the show much to the frustration of some of the apostles who could not get audience with the prophet when they wanted to. LOL.

I believe I read this in D. Michael Quinn's "Hierarchy of Power" book but I am too tired and lazy to track down the quote down tonight.

Another question about another aging apostle, Boyd Packer. Does he wear his depends on the inside or outside of his garments?

It's not a rumor. Monson has the usual constellation of symptoms, which include anger and inappropriate behavior at family gatherings. He was barred from the hospital when his daughter gave birth and his "privacy" is being protected by his family, who rule with an iron fist.

You can see why that is because all she has to do is nod in the direction of Peggy the Religion Editor and there will be an article in the news on how the Q15 are working the prophet too hard and causing him stress-related illness.

The one who can really illuminate how prophet- dimentia is handled (cruelly) is our own Steve Benson. Nothing screams "love at home" like someone being propped up like a porn doll in front of a podium, told to wave, and then his speech being read by someone else.

But he's fine, says the church spokesman, he was just a little tired, so he went to take a nap....

What, then, prevents Eyring and Uchtdorf from using Monson's autopen authority to seize effective control of the corp from Monson Dibb, in the same way Hinckley and Monson did to ETB 30 years ago?

I suspect Monson is just lucid enough to knife them back if she tells him to.

Plus they all know they can just wait it out. And they probably do control the money, so what else matters, really?

Of course, he is important to my tbm family, and i would love to be educated about the state of things, so i can play devils advocate at sunday night dinners ;D (jk kinda. Dementia is a very sad illness. Even when it affects someone who has hurt so many people, on purpose or accident)

The best information we have is that yes, he has dementia. He is apparently better in some kinds of situations than others.

I'll bet anyone a cup of coffee that he performs speaking functions without incident.

He always seems fine to me. How do we know any of these rumors are true? My dad sees him a few times a year and has pleasant, apparently coherent, interactions with him. Only difference is now Monson says he misses his wife every time my dad sees him.

Same here. The only time I thought he really looked off was at the BSA event at the conference center. He walked up on stage and looked lost for a few seconds. He was then directed to the mic, and he turned it on and delivered his comments without any problems. He's not going to get lost during conference. He just needs to stand up and walk a couple steps to the podium...Eyring and Uchtdord might direct him if needed. Even if he is losing it, he still might be able to read from a teleprompter.

This is inevitable when the senior apostle is always selected to be the next President. Like reverse natural selection, it guarantees that the guy will always be the weakest.

Gordon Hinckley was running the show for years as Spencer Kimball descended into a mind cloud. Howard Hunter lasted days.

Monson behaves strangely to get attention and assert his dominance. The problem appears to have originated after he became the prophet. He's enjoying himself, in a childish sort of way, now that he isn't under Hinckley's iron thumb. I think it's an emotional issue rather than cognitive.

Monson attended a farewell in my parent's ward for a couple who had been called to be mission president a couple of months ago. Monson asked to say a few words at the end of the service. My folks (TBM) said he told the same story twice during his remarks. Even they thought he was in the process of dementia.

Monson was at the Women's Conference last Saturday but did not speak. There is no way in hell Ann Dibb is controlling Monson.

Period. End of story. The BIG 15 are in charge and there is no challenging their authority.

Ann Dibb's role is probably more one of containment and maneuvering Monson on and off stages and through crowds.

Beats the heck out of me how anyone can say the profit isn't on top of his game.....
