It seems to me the ages of the posters seem to be either young or mature. Young being 20 and mature being over 55. Which is interesting because in my opinion these 2 groups are not wanted at TSCC unless you are an obedient toilet scrubber.

I am 60 and seem to be one of the younger mature posters.

50's. Also old enough to have been LIED to by two temple presidents when I asked them about the temple ceremony change -- in the temple itself no less. Disemboweled myself when I became distraught about Satan wearing his BLACK apron representing his priesthoods was taken out at the same time. But in the words learned from the loud laughter of other great spiritual leaders in "Monty Python and The Holy Grail", "I got better".

(Note: Sealed in live ceremony SLC temple in 80's).

40, prime mormon age, the perfect age for the big callings but more importantly to them my husband is 42, great age for paying a hefty sum in tithing with several boys nearing mission age. I have ran across quite a few families like us, that has to be hurting the church.

Good month, good year: I'll be 62 on New Year's Day. Throat and chest slitter. Disemboweled myself. Pay lay ale. Left the cult at age 24. Resigned once I figured out how in my forties.

I think you're right, they've only got a good grasp on the ones who make it into marriage and making babies for the cult without checking the internet.

I've been coming to RfM since I was 28, but I was an early articulator about hating everything involved with the cult. I ran from it like my ass was on fire the second the police would no longer return me like the possession my parents considered me.
36 now.

There is a suspicious gap of missing early twentysomethings. I know we get a lot of struggling teens, but they don't always have the kind of freedom to check in like well established adults do.
Yes, yes, I know there ARE early twentysomethings on the board, but not quite as many as you might expect. Of course lots of them would be bogged down with children, depending on how far they followed the cult script(and of course it is totally normal to have children, the general population just tends to wait longer than religious ones do). So I wonder if they just don't have the time to check in until afternoon naps or so.

I think part of that is because 20-something mormons are exhausted. They are kept so busy with callings, work and young children that they barely have time to shower let alone question their faith. I hardly remember my 20's, I was busy with a husband as EQ president, teaching primary and tending to a growing family that went from just the two of us to the seven of us all in my 20s. Being in your 20s as a mormon is tough so it makes sense there aren't many 20 somethings here.

Wow. The younger folks are working while I am home with the flu. Age 63 Sigh..

The "throat slitters" refers to those of us who went to the temple prior to the 1990 changes where we pantomimed the slitting of our throats and disemboweling ourselves. Younger Mormons deny these grotesque gestures in the temple ever happened. We slitters are able to observe history being rewritten.

I still enjoy reading more than posting, it's obvious there's a wealth of experience to benefit from, yet telling that despite the gaps in ages, most stories of leaving the church are vaguely consistent.

61 here. I find it interesting that so many of us remember the throat slitting but we also remember precorrelation when church was actually fun with bazaars, road shows, gold and green balls, sleeveless dresses and mini-skirts, some guys went on missions, some girls waited, not singing "Follow the Prophet" and not calling the President of the church The Prophet. But we were also the ones who were shocked to find out that it was JS who started polygamy and not BY marrying all of those widows. We were in the middle of the Civil Rights movement and became disillusioned by lies of our authorities regarding Vietnam and Watergate and Blacks being the draft dodgers of the pre-existence. We were forced to start questioning everything and when we did that, we ran screaming down the street after going to the temple. The "Wonder Years" indeed.
