& yes, all of their beliefs are crazy. So, IMHO, it doesn't matter what they believe.

What matters is the institutional, spiritual, & ecclesiastical abuse that the cult commits.

This is why it's a truly evil & abusive organization.

They are an abusive cult, organization, & corporation, plain & simple.

To harp on their idiotic beliefs masks the real damage that they have done.

Agreed.

I didn't leave for doctrinal issues, I left because I stepped out of the box, looked at most of the Mormons in my life and I realized I didn't like them. Unempathetic, conditional in their love/affection, and control freaks with black and white thinking.

Then I realized the church is an abusive cult and I walked.

As far as I'm concerned, all religious beliefs are absurd and stupid, but yes the abuse that TSCC commits makes it much more like cultlike than a lot of religions.

I'm not sure we need to put a value on why one leaves the church, or alternatively, how the church impacts a person's life.

· It's teachings and scrubbed history are crazy, and riddled with lies.
· As an organization, it is emotionally stunting, and mentally abusive.
· It tends to create, attract, or exacerbate people who are narcissistic, abusive, dysfunctional.
· If followed, its teachings and practices tend to provide its strict adherents with poor or inadequate social skills, and with incomplete mental tools, those needed for dealing with life in a healthy, fulfilling manner.

The focus on any of these factors should be based on an individual's choice and experience.

Personally, I left primarily due to bullet item number 1. Today, my focus for those that I love that are still caught in the web is because of bullet items 2 through 4.

Its fetid plagues are myriad, and its needed cures are multiple.

Two things in particular make a religion a bad one. Demonization of dissent, and disenfranchisement. Mormonism has both. Lots of other churches do not act that way anymore. How often do you hear of excommunication in other churches today? The only ones I remember lately involved the Westboro Baptists.
