Several decades back, I went to BYU, my first year out of high school. I was an awful student and hated Provo and the roommates that I had.
I did love rock and roll music and spent some time over at the Student Union where they had students playing their own songs or doing covers of current music.
One of the groups, with a girl lead singer (who I had a minor crush) was introduced as "The Gadianton Robbers" . THey did a couple of cover songs and were back the next week. It was announced on stage that they had to change their name because the original was "disrepectful to the scriptures." Not sure who told them that but you can make a good guess.
Don't remember what they called themselves in the 2nd go round.
