I just came across 2 brothers who are named after BOM characters namely Nephi and Ammon. They're now teenagers and I wondered if they ever resigned from TSCC would they feel 'marked for life' saddled with two figments of a paedophiles imagination.
I imagine this is more common in the States but not so in the UK.

If I was called Nephi I would change my name ASAP, even if I was still a TBM.

My high school principal's first name was Moroni. He always laughed and said, "And that's Moroni with an 'i'."

Yeah, I think that would be name change territory. Or going by the middle name.

There was a kid in our junior high school with the first name of Nephi. I don't remember ever meeting him, but he was always getting paged to the principal's office.

My nephew and his wife recently named their baby boy Brigham. Sigh.

But there is also BH Roberts (B for Brigham), who I consider a hero of sorts to ex-Mormons.

Still... facepalm.

I'd switch to using my middle name, if it was halfway normal. Mormons love initials. N. John Doe.

Unless, of course, you consider that one is totally fictitious, while the other was a narcissistic egomaniac that enjoyed stealing other men's wives. You choose which is worse.

My niece has a missionary in the field now named Ammon. They live in Mesa, AZ and his mom told me once that the high school he went to had 2 Ammons, 1 Nephi and 1 Moroni.

I just can't imagine those names on kids in today's day and age.

My cousin Alma goes by "Al". That one works out OK. I don't see that sort of solution for Nephi, so I'd go with the middle name.

In the States do they use just the more common BOM names or do they push the boat out with names like Teancum or Ammoniah?

From what I understand, if you have more than 5 children in Utah, one must be named "Taylor"

I had forgotten that Jonathan Swift named his most character Lemuel Gulliver.

Fictional to be sure, but most TBM's probably think that's a previously unknown bible name and not Gulliver (or the Smith's landlord Lemuel Durfee.

My boyfriend's last name is Taylor (actually had a great grandfather named John Hughes Taylor--who was mormon, but left the church, so my boyfriend is not mormon, though he has many relatives who are).

I just saw something on TV I believe that wasn't local. The guy's name was something like Nephi. I can't remember what for sure, but he was OBVIOUSLY not active mormon by whatever the situation he was in was. I was thinking the same thing--I'd sure change my name if they named me Nephi or Lehi. There were quite a few kids who were named Hyrum who went to school with my kids. (I live in Hyrum. I used to live in Brigham.)

Just imagine the anguish when some of those "Brigham" kids have their eyes opened to the sham that is TSCC, and especially their namesake. How sad...they have to go through life named after a an egomaniacal charlatan.

My nephew has issues and it clearly came from his moniker.....that being Ammon. He's tried several times to commit suicide, hates his parents, has attempted to knife his mother, (really not a bad idea..) all due to an unusual name.

Too boot, his middle name is Spencer.....

I once dated a guy named abinadi. That was awkward explaining. Went by his initials of his first and middle name instead.

I feel sorry for any guy that got named Alma, because to the rest of the world it's a girl's name. In Hebrew, Alma means "young woman".

Brother, whose first name is Moroni. He sent in his resignation in 1984, He HATES his name and goes by his middle name, Bleak but changed the spelling of that name to Blake. (Our great grandfather was the first temple president of the St. George Temple and his last name was Bleak. ((pronounced like Steak)) Brother has struggled with both first and middle names.

My ex’s temple name was Nephi. Yeah, he’s as big a dick as the one who chopped a guy’s head off for a book.
