I understand that the Akron Ohio Stake Conference is this weekend. Does anyone know who is speaking Saturday night? What else happens at stake conference besides authority speakers?

My guess is that Friends of Bill W. will not be invited to speak.

That's too bad; Akron was where Bill W. and Dr. Bob started AA. My brother goes to Founder's Day every year; next year he'll be thirty years sober.

Yeah, I'm from Akron too! I still miss it sometimes.

What happens at Stake Conference?
They announce some "calls."
They call the members to obedience, ignorance, and irrationality.
People fall asleep in the pews listening to the same old nonsense repeated endlessly in that droning "mormon voice."

That about covers it.

I certainly don't go to their conferences, but my social-mormon (could never disappoint her parents) wife certainly does.

Anyway, I live in the southern reaches of the Akron Stake and rarely get up to Talmadge area -- I have a hard time even remembering where the stake center is -- Howe Rd???

I'm glad that's all a distant memory. I think the last time I wen was 20 years ago.
