While I was in it, I never realized how often I was being told to conform to a standard. I mean, I've heard the cliches before about how people have to find their own way, and make their own decisions, but it never really sunk in. I was taught from the very beginning that there was a "right way" to do - pretty much everything. I mean, I was told what to wear, what to drink, what to do on a Sunday - and I accepted it? I felt guilt for being unhappy with it?

Now, I'm finally understanding that what is right for my father is not always right for me. It's amazing how such a simple concept can require so much training.
