"A partial jawbone and set of flint tools found in a cave in Israel suggests that modern humans may have left the African continent tens of thousands of years earlier than scientists had previously thought.

Researchers who published their findings in the journal Science on Thursday said the jaw, complete with several teeth, was between 177,000 and 194,000 years old.

The estimate indicates that the first Homo sapiens may have left Africa about 220,000 years ago — between 50,000 and 100,000 years earlier than previous fossil discoveries had suggested."

I think this story is so great!!!

It seems like every month or so there is a new piece of evidence which (yet again) reorders the existing scientific and historical record.

This is an extraordinarily incredible time to be alive and to be able to share intellectually in these---seems like constant---brand new discoveries...

...and I feel so fortunate to be "here"...and to be here NOW.

I thought maybe there'd been another First Presidency press conference.

Ha.
Problem is, the First Presidency has jawbones, but no teeth...

There is a scripture about that.

The jawbones of asses.

Online tabloids make my tummy hurt, seriously...

Sixty thousand flint tools? And they're dating this one at around 185,000 years ago but then claiming humans left Africa about 220,000 years ago?

And seriously, unlike Native American migrations, I don't have a horse in this race. The prevailing "Out of Africa" theory puts the migration at around 80,000 years ago, about the same time the "molecular clock" identifies a "mitochondrial Eve" who was ancestor to us all...

The laugher, though, is the inset featuring the Hiroshima detonation with the statement, "13.8 billion years ago, molecules began to connect, turning into structured organisms."

I just Googled "Age of the Sun" and came up with 4.6 billion years...

Well, 13.8 billion years or so ago molecules (first of molecular hydrogen) *did* "begin to connect." And they did eventually turn into structured organisms...some 9 billion or so years later. The headline was clearly too brief by far to give the necessary details, but it ain't wrong :)

But you'll have to pay to read the whole article.

It would have been so much easier if they'd have put headstones on their graves:

"Here lies Urg, Father, Husband, Inventor of the Flint Point. Dec. 17, 183,000 B.C. - March 23, 182, 958 B.C."

Also easier to necrobaptize!
