I subscribe to DIALOGUE out of curiosity and interest. Some of the articles are quite progressive while some put my teeth on edge.

I received an email from DIALOGUE with information about this:

Jack Welch: BYU law scholar John W. Welch will visit the Miller Eccles group in California on February 20th and 21st to talk about "Sustaining the Law: Joseph Smith’s Legal Encounters." Click in to learn more!

I am close enough to easily go hear this lecture.

Then I read about Welch, only to learn he was one of the founders of FARMS. Is that institution still around and viable in some way?

Would you go hear this guy talk if you lived so close it would be easy?

Welch is an apologist. Whatever he says will be very slanted
pro Mormonism.

I would go just for the entertainment value. I'm sure they will fail to tell the whole story about his legal encounters. Looking at church history has taken on a whole new light now after I realized the sham that I had been falling for.

FARMS is now the Maxwell Institute. It made news a year or two ago when it got rid of Dan Peterson.

Which should not, of course, imply that the Maxwell Institute has ceased to do dishonest, covered-up, nonsensical apologetics. It hasn't. It just does them without Peterson :)

Demonstrate loud laughter, in his presence, during his presentation.

LDS Inc deserves scorn, ridicule, and contempt. They cause great harm to people and families.

Jack Welch loves to hear his own voice. BORING...

I've heard him speak and it was exhausting and annoying, at best.

I heard him once--he was the moderator on a panel talking about the then soon to be published church book on MMM. I was not impressed. I would not call him a "scholar."
