Suppose irrefutable evidence was verified showing that the positive effects of coffee / tea 'far' outweighed any problems/short-comings/side effects.....
akin to immunization / claims of autism ...
you, Peter PH / Molly Mormon, bring this info to your Bp and/or SP, 'sincerely' asking (WTF).

Not at all. They will simply point out that the WoW was given "not by commandment or constraint" (D&C 89:2) and that tea and coffee were never mentioned. God merely warned about "hot drinks" (D&C 89:9). They will also state that god wants more mormons to qualify for the temple.
The ability to "throw out the past" and "move on" has always been one of Mormonism's strong points since TBMs go along without question.
After changing Joseph's "eternal" temple endowment and removing the black skin "curse" prior to the millennium, a change of this nature would be small potatoes for TSCC.

So your TBM friend doesn't brush his/her teeth before bed? Yuck
If the WOW was "not by commandment or restraint" then why is it now vital for a temple recommend?
It's strict adherence is not for the purpose of 'perfecting the saints' so they can run without being weary, etc: it is merely ensuring that no addictions are being funded before tithing is paid. Coffee can be expensive when drunk frequently, especially if it is fresh rather than instant. Tea used to be very expensive, especially in the times of Joe & Co when it had to be imported from far afield. Tea used to be kept under lock and key so servants could not help themselves to the master's stock.
Frequent purchasing of tea then or coffee now would not consume 10% of one's income, but an addict makes sure they have their substance before other non-essentials.
Using tobacco or eating a lot of red meat can be quite expensive in comparison to eating a mainly vegetarian diet and not consuming tobacco.
Yes, the more I consider the reasons, the more it seems likely that the WOW was designed to streamline members' expenditure, obviously with the purpose of ensuring tithing is paid in full.
