Due to scientific articles, a TBM I know now agrees that Adam didn't necessarily live 6000 years ago, but that the lineages in the bible and BoM (Ether) skip generations and that Adam can go back to 350,000 years ago, or earlier.

Anyone heard this before? Doesn't the BoM / Ether delineate who begat whom and link it up to Adam 6000 years ago? (My understanding was that it did, and it couldn't be skewed because they also had to overlap with the Nephites with Coriancumer.)

What do you all think? References?

He's trying to reconcile the cognitive dissonance.

Spring some genetic adam and eve dates on him. Hint, Genetic Eve is older than Adam, except for one clump of very old genetic male lines in the heart of Africa. So there are two different genetic Adams. Show him the data on Human Chromosome 2 and how that event links us to the ape lineage millions of years ago. All the rest of the apes have 48 chromosomes. Humans have 46 because Chromosome 2 fused with another chromosome.There are the middle points, internalized telomeres and everyhing. Chromosome 2 is linked with the development of human intelligence.

Then have him read DC 77 and 2Nephi22. These say the temporal existence of the earth is 7000 years and there was no death of any kind before the fall. Show him the timelines from seminary.lds.org
that show adam becoming mortal around 4000 BC.

Notice also the global literal flood indicated on the timeline about 2500 BC; the literal Tower of Babel at about 2200 BC (required for the Jaredite story) and how the evidence again contradicts the story.

LDS teachings require these events to be literal and surprisingly recent. That he knows this impossible is a heavy burden on the shelf.

Modern humans don't go back any where near 350,000 years ago.

Show him the Neanderthal extinction (and their rock art) and yet humans have 1-4% Neanderthal DNA. We interbred with the Neanderthal toward the end of their species existence. Except for the blacks who didn't go on that migration out of Africa.

So many things just deny the whole premise he is creating, both religiously and scientifically.
