I saw on a church related blog recently that there has been a major readjustment of stakes in Mexico and they have closed about Thirty wards!Growth in Africa decline everywhere else!

Mormonism in Mexico cannot compete with Catholics.
If you "Compare" the basics...its a No-brainer!

And thanks to the internet, comparisons can be made. There was a time, though... I expect the same for Africa!

Great news!

The cult is trying to hide its downfall by concealing info.

(Until a few months ago it was possible to get an official update of LDS units being created and "discontinued", but then they decided it was a bad idea to disclose this info. I wonder why...)

By hiding info, they can keep on boasting about being the fastest growing cult around. But only gullible, uninformed people buy that. (Including a few journalists who repeat this pathetic claim without any basic checking.)

A lie repeated a thousand times...

It is not surprising when you see and average attendance of 18 to 20% when the membership is close to 400.

Most mormon wards would be glad to have 20% attendance!

Lots of wards in Europe, Latin America, Africa, western Asia, Australia and Japan have over 1,000 names on paper but rarely over 100-150 people present. And that's the wards. Most of their branches used to be wards. Outside North America, the average chapel sees more American expats than local converts.

Wouldn't it be better if you read:

30 STAKES close in Utah?
Or all temples in Utah are to be close and razed?
Or 150,000 missionaries went home from their missions after 1 month out???

Judging by the behavior of the TBM teenagers I met there the two summers I visited the place, that is only a matter of time.
As soon as they could drive, they got their kicks (and tricks) on I-15 or I-80.

Some very weird changes there for those who know Eastern Europe a bit.

I saw the Hungary mission is now the Hungary/România mission. There are millions of ethnic Hungarians in Romania so it makes perfect sense to make one mission with the two languages even though they are as different as English and Arabic. They simple overlap all over Romania.

But the Ukraine mission is now the Ukraine/Moldova mission which is complete nonsense. The Ukraine speaks Russian and Ukrainian (mutually intelligible with Polish) while Moldova speaks neither of these two languages. Moldova speaks... Romanian!

There's no way local leaders can explain these changes to local members with a straight face.

OK, there is one way that these mission "realignments" do make sense: they've just given up on Moldova and most of Romania altogether. But instead of pulling out, they've added the countries' names to other missions. The Ukraine/Moldova mission is really the Ukraine mission and the Hungary/România mission is now the Hungarian-language mission covering all of Romania officially but concentrating on the Hungarian-speaking western third of the country.

If my hunch is correct, there won't be any new mishies trained in Romanian henceforth, and the ones in the field will be replaced with ones that speak Hungarian.

I often read here that TSCC can only expect to keep growing in Africa because everywhere else, people have access to the internet.

Well, that was true ten to fifteen years ago but not anymore. I have lived in Africa, admittedly in the westernized north, but mobile internet has rapidly expanded throughout the continent. Back in 2005 or 2010 it was difficult for some investigators to find "anti-LDS garbage" if they were living in the Congo or Cameroon, or Côte d'Ivoire or Angola. But not anymore. Now all of those places have mobile internet at the same speed as Morocco and Tunisia (where I'll be moving later this year) had five to eight years ago, and sometimes already level with us.

Moreover, Africa is the polyglot continent, more so than Europe. Most Europeans are fairly good in English as a second language, but few are fluent in a third. Not Africans. If their native language is a small indigenous one (like Tamazight in Morocco or Noon in Senegal), they will also speak a bigger one like Arabic, Swahili, Lingala or Wolof, or even several of these. And virtually everyone is fluent in at least one European language like English, French or Portuguese, all of which open the doors to more critical websites than pro-LDS ones.

The implosion of TSCC in Africa has already begun. Just sit back and enjoy.

Perhaps the vulnerable types that TSCC loves to pounce on will still have trouble with access for a while to come? I have heard there is a radio station in Liberia helping out. I'm glad, however, that internet access is increasing. TSCC doesn't need to be grabbing tithes from desperate people. Food from the mouths of children, medical care from their bodies.

There are religious groups who don't demand tithing, who bring food and medical care, who dig wells for access to clean water. But anyone who comes preaching tithes should be railed out of the African countries.

Mexico is a country on the brink of destruction due to corruption and drug cartel activity. Over 130 politicians and political candidates have been assassinated in this election cycle. Wondering if this may have some play in the church's decline in the number of wards.

Any time a Mexican mormon suffers, even if it's just having to live in fear, it's an indicator that ghawd is not doing a very good job of looking out for his people. Might as well have stayed Catholic!

Of course it does.
People are scared and they will stay with the religion their parents gave them.

Not to mention that most people do not want to take a chance on vacationing in Mexico these days.

I don't know why my comment was deleted which pointed out that it would not be wise for the US to open the borders.
Do we really want to have Mexico's problems here ?

We do not want Mexico's problems, but I would like us to help the children already here. I shudder at the prospect of sending any of them back.

The US State Department has issued a travel warning to Mexico and they are going to have a communist president. Mexico could continue to degrade into a real mess and that country has the largest population of Mormons second to the United States.

Depending on how Marxist Mexico becomes freedom of religion might go by the wayside. Mexico could become a real problem for the US and the Mormon church in the future.

I'm afraid to share an opinion. No matter how benign and un-povocative it will likely get deleted. Seems to happens regardless of attempts to be polite, nonpartisan and including relevance to Mormonism. Whats with this forums policies? I'm in a quandary!

Conspiracy theories regarding politics come under the heading of "partisan politics"--and partisan politics are not allowed on this board.

This would not necessarily be true in a historical context where there was once a genuine conspiracy--one that HAS been proven to have existed by a process which has included (for example) litigation, investigation (both procedural and scientific), and the relevant opining by whatever are, or were, the relevant experts.

If it involves "the present" (general meaning: in the twenty-first century), it generally will not pass muster as a subject, or a reference, here.
