I just wanted to clear up a few things regarding diabetes.

First, diabetics don't need to "eat every 5 hours". Diabetics need to carefully balance their food intake with their insulin dosing. Generally there are two ways to do this. One can do multiple injections daily, using fast- and slow-acting insulins in a schedule that is individualized and worked out with the patient and physician working in close harmony. Many diabetics nowadays utilize automated insulin pumps, some of which coordinate with a subcutaneously implanted blood-glucose monitor via a radio or Bluetooth system. In fact, most current monitors can be managed via smart phones.

As for whether Mormonism makes people diabetic, remember that nobody really knows why diabetes happens, especially for Type II diabetes. Obese people are more prone, but the connection between dietary choices and diabetes is far from clear.

Thank you.

My father was slim and athletic. He still developed type 2.

Thanks, but I think it’s obvious that diabetes is not a mental illness.

Both my parents have diabetes. Both my grandpa's had it. I feel like it's inevitable for me...

Sounds like type 1.
I'm type 2 and I take pills to contain it.

My mother in her 80's only began using insulin a few years ago under her doctor's direction. She was the age I am now when hers was discovered.

I was diagnosed a year ago in my mid-60's. I've lost over 60 lbs. and I check my blood sugar level every morning. My A1C was 6.1 at my last check-up, and I'm sure what would help even more is an excercise program; that one's a toughie...

Type I and Type II are entirely different diseases; insulin is required for the former, and I'm aware of a "good friend of RFM' in his 70's with Type I (often erroneously called "juvenile diabetes") who's still going strong and raising hell with LDS, Inc.
