No Germany beer while I am here. Tonight it will be Guinness Stout to commemorate the St. Patricks Day celebrations (in London always on the Sunday nearest 17th March) and later perhaps a Tsing Tao Beer (My Grandfather served in Tsing Tao in the KaiserÄs Army).
You're already a step ahead by not liking the sweet wines!
Ymmv, but beer typically is 5 - 7% alcohol and Wine is double that range. And a serving of wine is about half as many ounces as a beer - so if you hear someone say a glass of wine has the same effect as a beer, that's why.
The "hard" stuff is anywhere from 20% to 50% alcohol, and some go higher. The Proof description you see on the bottle is double the percentage - so a 70 Proof = 35% alcohol volume.
If you're wanting to try a beer and are enjoying the wonders of the store's beer cooler, look for a Session Beer. It'll say so right on the label, and Session batches have a low alcohol content while giving up none of the flavor.
