I had heard that in Australia it is now like the 10th leading "religion" claimed. I think that it probably started out as a joke or tongue in cheek "new age" philosophy. Yet, when you start looking into it is it crazier than Scientology? Mormonism? Christian scientist, or a lot of other?
The fifth book of Nephi warns us of the Jedites, who will deceive the very erect. He who graspeth not the iron rod but his own sabre shall be parried. Let he who is without spin cast the first tome.
Is it not remarkable that the Book of Mormon foresees Star Wars, sexual perversity and Bill O'Reilly's biography?

In my youth, when I was learning to play darts, our group of friends would say, "Use the force, Luke." Our group of friends would refer often to 'the force' when implying someone should steady themselves, focus, and think positively.
"Remember, use the force."
I had no idea I was being conscripted into a cult. Dodged another bullet there ! Darn that Obi Wan. (These aren't the droids you're looking for ...)
When I returned to California from my naval service in 1984, some of the fans of the original Battlestar Galactica had formed their own "religion" based on the series. I don't remember all the details, as I only ran into them once in L.A., but I know they were wearing the colonial uniforms you saw on the program back then.
The one who is called donbagley flawlessly echos the ethos of the one true prophet Joseph Campbell with the words of a pretender prophet, yay even the ubiquitous Joseph Sith.
