Just wondering, since I'm new here. If there's someone I'd like to become better acquainted with or have a question for some of their shared experiences that I don't want to leave in the general forum, is it possible to send a notey?

now.

(This is assuming their email address is hidden. Mine isn't, but most are.)

So, you email admin and say I'd like to exchange emails with X and you give them the email address you want used. Admin then says to start as thread where you ask X to email admin. If X wants to exchange emails with you, you'll get one. If not, admin will say sorry.

Oh. She's the one in the sticky note I see.

Good for her. This place looks a bit like Grand Central Station on any given day.

It's not a service that the board software supports.

However, it's an interesting idea. Why not suggest it to Eric?

Thanks. I may do that once I figure out who Eric is.

Also, who decides to close a thread? Is that admin or is it the one who opens a thread? I've seen some interesting discussions, and then suddenly the discussion is closed (for further discussion.)

Is there a limit to how many posts per thread are allowed before one gets retired?

:)

Most threads used to be closed at about 30 posts, with some exceptions like condolence threads which were allowed to go on to their natural end point.

Now the number of posts has stretched to a bit more than thirty most of the time, with some give for what point discussions may be in. (It is kind of an art form. :) )

Threads are closed by Admin/mods...

...but new, continuation, threads may then be started (and frequently are).

Is turned off and I am pretty sure it will stay that way. Over the years we have seen gross misuse on other forums. Admin reading them, being used to harass, being used for illegal things. When it is email it is between two parties and they have all the control. The best thing to do is to set up an account like gmail and ONLY use it on the board. Then you can make it public in CONTROL CENTER up top. If you want someone to mail you, you can just ask them on the board :)
