Did you ever know of this fabulous SKA (reggae), with horns, band?

Did you go to any of their PACKED shows in Prove, SLC, Co. area.

I heard of them but never went to any of their shows.

I did go to a Aquabats show that was AWESOME! Had some other ska bands come on before them that were pretty good. But it's been so long I forgot their names.

Wasn't that Jon Armstrong's band, before he met and married Heather Boone (aka Dooce the blogger, who is also an exMo)? Isn't Jon an exMo, too? Not sure if his former wife is, as well.

Used to go see them, Stretch Armstrong and various other openers. For me this was 90-91 when I was first at BYU.

Yea, those evenings, when you could pay a dollar and go see a show, like these, were like heaven on earth in Provo, at the time.

You knew you would have a good time... and meet excellent, adventurous people - unwind a bit.

During those years I got into ska, reggae, rock steady and dub - not to mention "world music" - and I have never gotten out.

Have there been any other excellent local bands - in prove valley/ BUY - over the years... or are there any now?

Yea, I believe it was Jon Armstrong's band.

Those were some really good times - DOPE SHOWS - Off the hook

Thanks for the words on Heather's blog!

H.B.A. is a pretty right on blogger.

Ex-Mormon

From her blog (about me):

My parents raised me Mormon. Yes, Mormon in Tennessee. Meaning local Baptist churches routinely told my friends that I was a member of a cult. ...

I grew up believing that the Mormon Church was the only true Church on earth and went on to attend BYU from 1993-1997 where I graduated...

I firmly believe that BYU is the most horrible place on Earth, worse even than Disneyland, and the list of reasons is much too long to get into here, although my time spent there taught me more about foreplay than any porn could.

I left the Church the day that I graduated, and the one skill I learned in college that serves me well now is not how to solve differential equations or how to write a paper deconstructing The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, it’s how to distrust organized religion.

I am no longer a practicing Mormon... My family is understandably disappointed

Hi Heather - if you're on here.

Someone say hi to her if you see her

Bit more rocky than I'd expected, but pretty good!

I was a regular at the shows back in late 80's, early 90's...one of the band members lived next door to me in my crappy, dive duplex I was living in during my last year at BYU...fun times...oh the memories!!!

Don't remember them. I got there just as ska was dying out...it was big right before my mission, but all the ska bands were gone when I got back. I remember a band called Chump, a band called Catch-22, a guy that sang a song about a jetpack...

Yea those were some shows.

Walter Perry turned me on to them. I wonder where he is these days.
