There have been similar threads in the past, but I’m interested in a current sample of what pops into people’s minds when they think “Mormonism is…”

Here’s what just occurred to me: Mormonism is rigid obedience to vague, shifting doctrine.

A strange labyrinth of lies, deceit, mind control, obedience, demands for payments, busy work, gossip, boredom and did I mention lies?

A pernicious thought control cult.

A gold digging, high maintenance bitch who dazzles you into marriage. When you divorce her because she never really loved you and it's a sick codependent relationship anyway, she takes everything.

A FRAUD! I used to think it was a beautiful fraud when my shelf first collapsed and now I think it's an insidious fraud.

A form of Post Incarceration Syndrome:

Institutionalized Personality Traits:

1) Caused by living in an oppressive environment that demands passive compliance to the demands of authority;
2) Passive acceptance of severely restricted acts of daily living and lifestyle preferences;
3) Elimination of critical thinking and decision making;
4) Internalized acceptance of the above

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) caused by institutional abuse which includes:

1) intrusive memories and flashbacks to episodes of severe institutional abuse;
2) intense psychological distress/physiological reactivity when exposed to cues triggering memories of the institutional abuse;
(3) episodes of dissociation, emotional numbing, and restricted affect;
4) chronic problems with mental functioning that include irritability, outbursts of anger, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, and an exaggerated startle response;
5) persistent avoidance of anything that would trigger memories of the traumatic events;
6) hypervigilance, generalized paranoia, and reduced capacity to trust caused by constant fear of abuse from both correctional staff and other inmates

And my own personal twist on it: Trauma due to the predator vs. prey atmosphere of Mormonism. Never turn your back on LDS authority.

...about time and not family. Just endure to the end of your life biding your time worshiping an impossible ideal of family pretending that is what you want in your life.

When you are dead you will have that ideal, or nah...
