Long, long, ago men told tales of love and war, good and evil and triumph and tragedy. They sang of great cities with names like Mycenae, Tiryns, Argos, and Troy.

But where is Zarahemla? It doesn't seem to be -- anywhere.

The church won't even stand behind the original teachings that the final battle at Cumorah was in New York.

I used to stand on Hill Cumorah and try to imagine the horrible scene that I thought had occurred there.

For some reason, it doesn't seem to raise a red flag to Mormons that their church never talks about amazing archaelogical discoveries they made on Cumorah, or anywhere in the Americas.

It is more the brainwashing by the doctrines of eternal life or becoming a god who rules over earth like planets that keeps a person going being a Mormon.I am unsure whether the Book of Mormon itself makes a Mormon what they are.

The actual content of the Book of Mormon is rather boring and somewhat embarrassing to the church. They tend to use it more like a seerstone. It's the medium that opens you up to the real meat of God's eternal plan for your life.

Just because you can't find Zarahemla don't mean it don't exist.
The BoM is as Valid as Bible in historicity department......

1. Much of what people found unproved by the Bible relates to scripture which should not be taken as literal.
2. The geography of the Bible at least is largely provable. The geography of the BoM is non-existant.

I can call my travel agent and book a flight to Jerusalem. I could then take a bus to Bethleham.

I searched Orbitz and Travelocity but I can't find any flights to Zarahemla. (Maybe you have to book through Murdoch travel if you want the visit the Book of Mormon lands?!?!?!?!?!)

Edit: Oh yes, very smart Q. for any Christian who wants to trample on Mormons, thinking the Bible has all the "Historicity" facts & Truth.

So, what's the etymology of the name? You'd think Zarahemla would be easy to break down into its ancient origins, like Jerusalem:
http://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Jerusalem.html#.VTekNc90zIU

All we get, though, is the usual apologist suspects trying to come up with something:
http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/52705-zarahemla-revisiting-the-seed-of-compassion/

That sounds reasonable, but I think that if the BoM called the place Hrpuffnstuffland they would find a Hebrew
"translation"......

It is over the river and through the woods

A poster a while ago used "Zarahemla International Airport" as his moniker.

One of these days I'm going to make a nice ZIA promotional T-shirt.

"Zarahemla? Where's that?"

Think of all the missionary opportunities....

Between the left ear and right ear of some people. Nowhere else.

Joseph Smith declared the City of Manti was the southernmost city of the Nephite civilization and located in Missouri or Ohio. He did it during Zions Camp. Somehow this is overlooked today.
