Thanks to browsing a site mentioned in another thread, I came across this:

http://40.media.tumblr.com/d8ab9ee91e54c44df3e06474a7a46d66/tumblr_nmwntqsAY41tflm8no1_1280.jpg

It appears that this church member named Doc Severinsen or whatever came across a revelation or hallucination or whatever that this popped up in his mind during a service.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sacrament-Meeting-Painting-Doc-Christensen-Mormon-LDS-Art-Savior-11x14-Print-/251737855486?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a9cbed5fe

Obvious questions, since it appears Doc is on drugs or something:

1. Why is Daddy acting that way? Is he trying to grab the tray away?
2. What is the reason for Mom's shocked expression? Wouldn't she be down on her knees?
3. What's those red dots on the server's back-of-hand and back-of-wrist? Weren't those wounds healed during His resurrection? Unless you're a JW, he wasn't nailed by his wrists, was he? Aren't we supposed to worship "the LIVING Christ" in church?
4. And most of all, why isn't anyone else in SM actually paying attention to Him? No one, not even the boys passing out the sacrament, even bother to notice! Not even Sean Connery who's seated next to them. No one.
5. Also, hasn't Christ appeared in temples in the past, and will continue to do so? What's He doing in a simple meetinghouse, is He too perturbed by the mass building of all these Hincklian tiny "McTemples" to bother showing up in them?

I agree that the artwork is very odd. and that the expressions on the subjects' faces are even odder.

But I wanted to point out that mormons believe that Christ purposely kept the wounds on his hands/wrists and feet after his Resurrection in order to make a statement about the importance of the sacrifice.

Like a personal tattoo that he wont get removed, but for jesus.

Also on your statement 4, I think thats the point of the painting that Sacrament is intended as a spiritual experience but people rarely pay attention. So they dont notice Jesus (or the spirit) That was my interpretation.

Not that god is anywhere near there in reality.

That painting is in poor taste. LDS commemorate the LIFE of Jesus, not his gruesome death. No TBM would buy this art. And why on earth would anyone else want it?

That little girl is wearing a... a... I can hardly bear to say it! A SLEEVELESS DRESS! The little trollop! She is walking mini-pornography!

And what's with the old fart on the right slouching there with NO TIE? What is he, some bum off the street?

I'm just weighing in that it's not just Mormons that believe Jesus kept his scars - New Testament accounts clearly state the scars were still there after the resurrection (Google 'doubting Thomas') so it's standard Christian belief.

but I hate to steal your thunder by suggesting this picture is anything less than hilarious. I just suffer from pedantry.

DOC (Don O Christenson) is actually a friend of mine.

Years ago he was also a jeweler. He made my wedding set.

Some of you that have been in the church for a while might remember his painting of all of the profits through SWK all dressed in white sitting or standing in the Salt Lake Temple Celestial room. He was the artist.

He did another drawing after ETB died. His plan was to sell it and the proceeds was to fund my mission.

As far as the drawing in the post, it is an awful drawing.

Not one of his best works.

But he is a very nice guy.

No one is paying attention because they too busy on their electrical devices playing solitaire, minecraft, shopping on ebay or logging on here for some boredom relief.

There seems to be a lot of disturbing stuff in these paintings. Somehow, they make me think that TBM's and TSCC are a lot more prone to self-aggrandising than I imagined. I do know that it is not entirely limited to Mormons.

But, still....

It's shocking because no one expects Christ in a Mormon church!

Because he hasn't been in any church denomination for 2,000 years?

Well, to be fair, he hasn't been anywhere in 2,000 years.

I guess it's because he's been a very naughty boy, and his dad won't let him out of Kolob.

Grounded for 2,000 years for visiting the Americas after his crucifixion, when he was given strict instructions to return home and see his mother. She was really worried.

Actually, I think that's a pretty cool piece of artwork.

The message is that Jesus is humble enough to serve in even the lowliest capacity.

This may, of course, be the gin talking. ;o))

Sean Connery isn't wearing a white shirt and tie, and he has facial hair. The horror of it!

If you get a good feeling about something, can you credit it to the Holy Spirit and just go for it?

I know that happened to me several times when I was a teenager, but as I got older and wiser, I now know it was just raging hormones.

It's not Jesus.

They're shocked because it's the ward schizophrenic who decided to dress up as Jesus this Sunday because Jesus told him to.

That and the tray is filled with brown bread.

So is Jesus serving his own body in the tray?
Oh never mind, that's the Catholics.
