Not being Mormon, I was never a recipient of the annual Christmas brag letters that I've read about in this forum. I guess this is a thing for all kinds of people, though, since the delightful Sandy and Richard Riccardi have a very funny song about them. I don't think they're LDS.

I remember back in the mid 00s, I found a Web site for a Mormon ENT doctor in Sheridan, Wyoming. The guy had been married twice and had a whole bunch of kids. On his site, he had every Christmas letter he'd ever sent, including those he sent while married to his first wife. The letters were very much like the content of the song I linked. There was nothing but "good news", with many messages of "seriously, so blessed" in each and every one, although since the guy got divorced, things couldn't have been that perfect. Maybe the lack of humility and situational awareness is why he got divorced. I remember sharing that guy's site on RfM and people were commenting about how he'd shared pictures from his father's funeral, complete with a shot of the corpse in the casket.

Are braggy Christmas letters still a thing? Maybe they just come in emails and YouTube videos now. Sandy and Richard Riccardi's version sure made me laugh, though. Those who click, I hope you enjoy the song, too.

Bwahahahaha!

It’s at times like these I’m glad I don’t have that many friends and family who want to send me cards.

We sent one out a few years ago with some real stuff but with a bunch of made up braggy crap, like travelling to Sri Lanka to meet with Arthur C. Clarke.

My friends tend to keep their Christmas letters real -- they share the good things, but also the challenges.

To be clear, I don’t have a problem with genuinely newsy letters or cards, especially when they’re personal.

There’s a difference between being positive and being an obnoxious braggart.
