I'm watching the news and they just announced it as breaking news.

Marriage equality's first victim.

I'm sure there will be people who think I'm rude and that I should have some empathy for the family. I even know some of the family.

I'm glad the man is dead.

I'm not happy about Packer's demise at all! I'm sure that had he

outlived Tommy, as Prophet, Liar, and Regulator, he would have

"hastened the work" of the Church's own demise.

My cynical side says this was no natural causes death. I think Monson is about to kick, which would've put Packer in the top Jazzy Scooter spot. That would be a PR disaster for the church. So, they whacked him before hand.

A 90-year old man who was in ill health dies and you see a conspiracy?

Options: ReplyQuote
Posted by: flanders ( )

Sure, why not? Who doesn't like a thickened plot?!

Options: ReplyQuote

Oh, it would be great if that were true. That would be the kind of issue that could bring the whole thing down.

However, if we deal with reality, you have a 90 yo who was in ill health who died. He would have been only moderately more visible and influential as the No. 1 guy as opposed to No. 2.

Anyone who sees even the remote possibility of a conspiracy in this is just looking for spooks and shadows.

Nothing in the LDS church is as it seems to be.

Bullshit. He was old. He was frail. He died.

Sure the church can be nasty, but we don't have to inflate it to the level conspiracy and murder (in the 21st century). Sounds fucking nuts, ya know?

Fucking nuts?
So does rocks in a hat, wooden submarines, flaming swords, gold plates, tapirs, turning white & delightsome, becoming your own god, etc. etc.

Why did you sit around waiting for someone else to post a "civilized" comment? Why not post one yourself if it was that important to you?

Boyd Packer lived a long life. I hope his family finds comfort in that and also that he is no longer suffering, despite the suffering he caused many members (npi).

It will be interesting to see if Bednar steps up to take over as head dogmatic *!%#$le.

That damn PREYED on us young women in the 1980's. There was not ONE single fireside that he was not talking about our bodies, our sex and how sinful we were if we felt anything remotely sexually human. I hate that man and what he did to me and all of us.

I believe it's Eyring. It was Packer, then Perry (both now dead).

It's Russell Nelson. He'll be 91 on September 9th.

Wendy Watson as the potential wife of a LDS church prophet! Oh my.

See how fast I forget the "importance" after being gone. Alrighty then. Can Monson outlive Nelson? Just checked, Eyring I guess would be about 4th or 5th. I thought he was higher on the totem pole. Hmmm?

Also Packer was the last apostle called from the now defunct position (Assistant to the Quorum). So now the real gambling can begin.

Now for the next 2 apostles, will the Corporation go for "Race" relations, "Lineage" (i.e. name/white old man), CES employee?, Seventies or Temple or BYU President? Hmmmm Experience vs. Spirituality vs. Education (Law & PR)?

Well, with Wendy so close to the top now, don't Sheri Dew's

chances of cracking the top 15 increase dramatically? I mean, that

dude really deserves the call.

ETA: Also, that Testimony Glove thing is likely to go viral.

Well, at least we know he suffered...

Somewhere, maybe on this board, I read, that you should never talk evil about the dead:

Boyd K Packer is dead, good!

Now organists can play J.S. Bach in morg meetings!

No more hymns of the restoration for prelude and postlude.

I'm reminded of a famous Bette Davis quote...

"They say you shouldn't speak badly of the dead, only good.

Joan Crawford is dead.

Good."

My husband's family will mourn his death (he was a not so distant relative). I breathe a sigh of relief.

Condolences to those who are truly grieving, for those who are relieved, go celebrate! For those of us who don't really care, lets go on with our lives just as we would have had we not learned of his demise.

I kinda wish he would have become profit because that probably would've caused more people to leave the faith.

However, he needs to answer for his playing a part in the death of Kip Eliason and the countless pain BKP inflicted on others.

A man who calls good things evil, and has influence...more than brains...the world is better off without him.

It made our paper in southern Alberta....there will no doubt be lots of "what a great and wonderful servant of GAWD he was" bullshit preached from pulpits in the local Moridor Sunday morning...and not a scintilla about what a bigoted hateful motherfucker he was in reality. I would love to be fly on the wall when he shows up at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter says "YOU GOT ALOT OF SPLAININ' TO DO BRO"!!!!! lololololol!
