Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. It's encouraging to feel of your support and empathy, and many of the thoughts about how to respond will be helpful when I am ready to do so.

I found it unusual that all he could say is his church is based on love....all it's members, he says, show love. WOW....is he ever NOT seeing how they treat nevermos- in their communities for sure. Ask him why they don't interact with nevermos....there is a mix of people of course but many are Christians who attend other churches. He is truly in brainwashland if he thinks all Mormons show love. They show love if you march to their tune. Anyhow, just be there for him and tell him you are available for any conversation where you may be of help.

And I agree with the other poster who thinks someone else put him up to the part about him becoming addicted to porn at age 9. So where was his family....never around to catch him watching it??? For all those yrs. up until his current age??? He has been guilted into all that self loathing. It is best to enter into conversation about the future and not this "so called horrible past". As far as him finding his church to be "true" ask him if he had any friends before and if his church became true after they lovebombed him and pressured him into serving a mission? Good luck to you both. I am sorry he will go out for 2 yrs. and waste his time selling lies.
