I just finished watching her special on Comedy Central and she details how she was stopped at the door and told to put on something to cover her shoulders.

I can't post a clip, but if you have a cable/satellite provider, you can sign in to the watch it in the first act.

I wonder if a newspaper would suffice to cover those temptations to males.

There's a dress code at the mall? Is it a mall or stake dance?

If she only knew how many millions of "marks" it took to build that monstrosity, and the sacrifices made by many for the elite few...

I checked out the nearest big shopping malls ne a r me in Twin Falls (Magic Valley Mall) and Pocatello( Pine Ridge Mall). And found nothing! Maybe only the morg's mall has a dress code! Even reading about this is a WTH kind of thing!? What's next? Burkas???

The Mall of America in MN has the following as it's "dress code":

Clothing/Attire
•Appropriate attire, including shirts and shoes, must be worn.
•Wearing apparel which has obscene language, obscene gestures, or racial / religious / ethnic slurs that are likely to create a disturbance is prohibited.
•Wearing clothing which deliberately obscures the face: such as hooded tops, will not be allowed.
•Bulletproof vests or simulated bulletproof vests will not be allowed.

I could find nothing on City Creeks website regarding a dress code...

I've been to City Creek twice since I moved back to Utah in June, once to get something at the Disney Store for a granddaughter's birthday and once to go to a Sprint store. Turns out it was closed about a month ago.

I was surprised by how many people there don't have the "mormon look", i.e., tank tops on both men and women, most of whom don't have anything to show worth seeing.

I was surprised also by how many people were sporting big tattoos, both men and women. I guess City creek guards can't tell everyone with tattoos to cover up.

I've never been to City Creek and have no interest in going there, so I have no idea what the code of conduct allows.

It is a thorn in her side and she doesn't like to talk about it.

Never been, never planning on it.

Interesting that the Sprint store closed its doors. They didn't last long. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more store closings to come in the near future, even if they get free rent.

I live about 12-15 minutes away from it and I've never gone there either. City Creek was the first big crack in my shelf.

Could it be that Natasha made that up for her act? Just posing the question. Find it hard to believe that City Creek enforces that strict of a dress-code.

If I lived in Utah, I'd be tempted to try going there myself and wear a sleeveless shirt or top, just to see if anything happened... A social experiment, y'know?

This story is plausible in my mind.

Raptor Jesus and I had an experience some months back where we were followed by security. We were doing nothing wrong, but Raptor's wild long locks, godly beard and tool t-shirt were enough to label us troublemakers.

When the security guard finally spoke to us, he politely informed us that we would probably find what we were looking for outside the mall.

We weren't allowed to go buy anything because it was Sunday except for the restaurants that were open on Sunday. And the guard wanted us to go to restaurants that weren't in the mall.

Those weren't the droids we were looking for. We could go about our business - outside of the mall.

And I think that's amazing. Just as amazing is it to have a church build a billion dollar mall - it's equally amazing to tell people not to shop there.

Now I'm curious to see if my DH and I could get kicked out. He sports long hair and a beard (unfortunately the beard is gone for now) and has a Rush T-shirt (is that wild enough or too old school?)
Edited to say beard not bead.

There's no link to be posted at this time. If you have cable or satellite, (or something else like Hulu) you can log in to Comedy Central and watch the special. Here's a sneal peak, though:
http://splitsider.com/2015/08/heres-a-sneak-peek-of-natasha-leggeros-comedy-central-special-live-at-bimbos/

That's what you get for putting your hands in each the others back pockets, Raptor and En Sabah Nur!

In all seriousness, in many cultures, it's acceptable for friends of the same sex to walk and hold hands. Would a pair of friends be harassed and/or get kicked out for this I wonder? Remember the quick kiss debacle (although was that at Crossroads? It's been awhile.)

Was about Mormon women protesting at women's clinics that happen to provide abortion services. She claimed they were positively terrifying. I thought she was either exaggerating for comical effect or mistaken, but apparently at least one bored Mormon housewife is harassing women now outside of said clinics with their KIDS!

I can't find the link right now, but will try later. Here's one http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865633406/Salt-Lake-protesters-take-their-message-to-Planned-Parenthood.html?pg=all

That sounds so ridiculous.

By that logic, a woman wouldn't be able to find a garment of clothing there off the shoulders either.

Chalk another one up for dumb Mormon logic.

We had a high end department store downtown a number of years ago. People would get turned away for trying to enter in blue jeans.

It went out of business within one year. High end customers didn't want to be perceived as snobs, and everyone else stopped going right along with them.

I work directly across the street from City Creek and if there is a dress code, it certainly does not include tank tops, cutoff, etc. I see people all day every day coming in and out with having that "Mormon look."

Now, the fact that on most days you could roll a bowling ball down the center of the mall and not hit another person is another problem altogether. Beautiful place - wrong stores for the Utah demographic. Mr. Sushi at the food court, as well as Taste of Red Iguana both rock.

that's really weird, even for Utah. I was in a mall in Provo (or maybe it was Orem, hard for me to tell where those towns begin and end) with my TBM SIL and there were plenty of ladies with bare shoulders and short shorts on. Several men with bare shoulders as well.

So it could have been either University Mall, The Shops at the Riverwoods, or Provo Town Center. Never been hassled at those and I wear plenty of "immodest" clothing.

Like I said above, I really have no idea if it was for comic effect or if it really happened to her, but it sounds like a pretty Mormony rule. Plenty of "upscale" businesses have dress codes and buzzers on the door to let you in if they deem you worthy. Some restaurants have jackets and ties (or at least they used to) and many cruise lines have dress rules for dinner in the main dining hall. That's why this doesn't sound too far off the mark. We know many Mormons just can't handle bare shoulders on people, including toddler girls.
