Although that may open the eyes of a few, most Mormons don't care about essays, new information, or former members that publish their "truth". Sadly, most members don't know or care about anything new that comes out. They have an emotional testimony and they "know" the church is true no matter what else is going on.
In 1995 the LDS had 5.2 million active members out of 9.3 million total members (56% active). In 2014 they had 4.8 million active members out of 15.3 million total members (31% active). Mormonism is in a steady decline. They pump up their overall numbers but it is just a fraud. They have lost a net total of 400,000 active members in the last 20 years.
The LDS Church has tried to reverse this by reforming their missionary program but the missionaries are not converting people and are quitting the LDS Church when they return home. Going from 50,000 missionaries to 85,000 missionaries has not gained them anything.
I think that the truth is taking its tole on the LDS Church. They will change to try to save themselves. They have already done it many times with doctrines like Blood Atonement, Polygamy, Curse of Cain, Origins of Native Americans, etc...
@sb Have you considered that there are more ex-Mormons in the world then there are active Mormons? This is despite the constant efforts of the Mormons to grow their religion. They spend hours in meetings every week, they go on 2 year long missions, and give 10% of their income to the church yet it is still falling apart. Ex-Mormons don't have to dedicate themselves to "the cause" or give away enormous amounts of their money to point out the flaws of Mormonism because it is so easy to do.
@sb The point is that there have to be people to do those 3 steps. The more ex-Mormons there are the more it gets done. That speeds up the process of the eventual decline of the LDS Church. They can't even maintain their active membership at this point. The LDS Church isn't creating Mormons. It is creating ex-Mormons. The more ex-Mormons it creates the more people there are talking about the absurdities of Mormonism.
I'm also in the camp that the church will die out on its own. It will be faster in the less concentrated areas but it will still have tipping points.
Two things have simultaneously happened that are causing this. One, was obviously correlation. They stopped talking about or doing interesting things and dumbed it down to simple obedience. Lather, rinse repeat. The other thing that happened at the same time is society changed and changed a lot. It's not the 1950's anymore, with lots of spare time on members hands and no access to information. These two things, in concert will/are kill(ing) the church.
I was always told that God didn't need our money but we needed the blessings that come with giving. Let's put that to the test and see how long LDS, Inc. lasts without any income stream and how many more blessings the members receive when they aren't being fleeced. That might open a few eyes.
