This is even more evidence that Jesus may have had a wife

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865635394/This-is-even-more-evidence-that-Jesus-may-have-had-a-wife.html

I don't ever recall learning about this as a kid in the morg in the 70s and teen in the 80s....Is this new!???

Growing up in the church in the 50s and 60s, it was taken as 'gospel' that Chuey* had a wife, and maybe more than one, and we'd speculate who she or they might have been. It was no big deal.

One question that relates to this issue I've never seen an answer or an attempt to answer, but that's probably due to my laziness:

If a healthy young man reached the age of 30 and wasn't married, what was his standing in the community? In other words, would there have been any criticism of the emerging possible messiah, Jesus, if it were known that he was possibly a virgin?

"Being married" has pretty much "always" been a requirement for Jewish rabbis (reason: so they are kept grounded in this actual, earthly life), so---since Jesus was referred to as "rabbi" in the NT---Jews have always, reflexively, assumed that IF there was a "Jesus," then he WAS married.

There is also an additional assumption: that a rabbi has children...so Jews assume that---absent physical disorders on the part of one or both parties in the marriage---a "rabbi" WILL be a physical father of physical offspring.

In the twenty-first century C.E. these assumptions no longer apply because of gay relationships...a possible decision made by the couple to NOT have children...etc., but in the time of "Jesus," they are something on the order of a Jewish "law" (which isn't really a "law,"" but is nevertheless observed by those living at that time).

Jews generally married with the exception of Essenses and Jesus may have been associated with them.

I've always heard that traditionally a rabbi had to be married.

I liked the comment that said "How could he have suffered for all mankind if he didn't have a wife?

Wacka wacka.......

<<Because of the debate over the text’s authenticity, Yardley said it’s important not to take Columbia’s new study too seriously yet.>>

And:

<<King, much like other researchers, said people shouldn’t be quick to take the text as fact, though...>>

But the believers will ignore those caveats (if they even bother to read that far) and gleefully accept it all as proven fact.

Meanwhile, branches of Christianity that insist Jesus was a bachelor will be upset.

Yay, religion!

More pontless speculation about a guy with no credible history or identity.

Its a hoax like the Book of Mormon or the Mark Hofmann papers.

I agree that this is a hoax like the Mark Hoffman scandal or the Book of Mormon, since most Christians don't believe that Jesus was married, because if he were, they say it would have been mentioned in the Bible.

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=jesus+had+a+wife+hoax

There is plenty of information about why this is a hoax by people who think like Mormons. They want to paint Jesus in a different light for religious reasons and create fake discoveries like the Book of Mormon to do that.

I wouldn't trust anything I see in the Deseret News. Besides

which, don't they have to prove that a historical jesus

actually existed before they say he had a wife? Isn't that

putting the cart before the horse?

Is this a matter that is essential for your progression to attaining eventual godhood? Just thinking that one of my old bishops might have asked this if I had gone to him asking about this.

I've always thought he was, it just makes sense to me. As far as not being mentioned in the scriptures, women weren't often mentioned (unless it was something BAD) as they just weren't important enough to bother with.

We were clearly taught Jesus was a polygamist, 60s/70s.

I think correlation squashed this.
