Racism and white nationalism was part of the EV movement from the beginning

as a psychological escape valve to morally justify slavery.

The political "moral majority" stuff came later as they began to fear being in the minority in a changing America.

But it did alter "our" church as well. Prior to ETB and his pals, starting around 1950s, the Mormon church largely stayed out of politics except to insist on autonomy to worship as they saw fit. ETB launched Mormonism into the crazy, conservative, domination-obsessed thing that it is today.

The former Confederacy and the Bible Belt have enormous geographic overlap. This is not a coincidence. The religion was used to justify and enable the politics.
