The three Nephites prepared the way for Columbus

I love Facebook. I rarely log on, but when I do, I'm always reward with a gem from one of my Mormon friends. Apparently, the three Nephites do more than just assist stranded motorists.

Mormon Friend #1: Did you know that the Three Nephites prepared the American Indians for Columbus' arrival? His encounter with them is recorded in his admiral's log. I read it in a book

As they were exploring the island of Cuba, a sailor was getting fresh water and encountered some local Indians, described as dark-skinned and wearing a loin cloth. They were accompanied by three white men wearing white robes. Since the Indians were armed the sailor took off and told the admiral.

Mormon Friend #2: Where did you find that?! Can I borrow the book?

Mormon Friend #1 I loaned it out and now it's gone.


Maybe the book was taken back to heaven by an angel.

I see.
So the three Nephites apparently went to all the Lamanites, and told them, "Some white guys are coming. Do whatever they want. Be their slaves willingly. When they kill millions of you, just accept it. It's what you get for having dark and loathsome skin."

Is that about it?

Exactly. The three Nephites, guided by the spirit, kept the Lamanites trusting and kind so that they could be pillaged and raped by Columbus and Company.
