Masturbation is a horrible sin.

That's why it's specifically mentioned in the scriptures
repeatedly. In the Old Testament as well as the New Testament
and the Book of Mormon.

What? You say there's no mention at all of masturbation
anywhere in any of the scriptures? I can't believe that. How
could something that occurs so commonly and is so widespread not
be mentioned in the scriptures if it's such a terrible sin?

Like apologizing it is not mentioned in the scriptures so you shouldn't do it.

I mentioned that once to a non-LDS super-fundie christian.

"Yes, it is," he said, "read the story of Onan."

I've read it, I said. It condemned Onan for pulling out before ejaculating while having sex with his dead brother's wife. I'd be happy to never, ever pull out before ejaculating while having sex with my dead brother's wife, I said.

"No, no, you missed the point -- the sin was spilling his seed."

While having sex with his dead brother's wife, I pointed out.

"No, no, that part's irrelevant!"

Sigh.

So wet dreams are a sin by that standard? I know innocent little boys who already have wet dreams. Want to tell them they are sinning? Not me.

Sex in Mormonism is irreverent AND irrelevant unless it is done after covenanting in a Mormon temple. Technically, if Mormons consider masturbation a sin then they need to consider Me, Myself, and I a trinity and make having sexual relations with myself the same as with someone who isn't me.

Onan was commanded to have sex with his dead brother's wife to
impregnante her. By pulling out he purposely failed to
impregnante her. That's the whole point of the story. Nothing
about what anyone does when alone.

It's been many years since I read Leviticus but doesn't Moses place it as an unclean act not a sin? Menstruation was also an unclean act that would make a women have to spend the day outside the camp of Israel, also touching a spider, not a sin but unclean.

And today we have hand-wipes and tampons and bug spray so even the unclean thing is no longer valid.

No mention of masturbation anywhere in the four standard works.
That means the OT, NT, BOM, D&C, and PoGP.

My point is that if something that timeless and widely practiced
was a sin, God would have mentioned it clearly and repeatedly.
However, What the Church did was adopt the American medical
establishment's views of the late 1800s. They held the
victorian view that it made you go crazy, etc. Later when the
medical establishment came to their senses, the Brethren didn't.

true. The bible seems to be more interested in wet dreams and spilling seed. But doesn't mention masturbation specifically. So perhaps it was never been an issue until victorian times?

Yeah, right! :)
As long as there have been humans, they have been masturbating.

I was a happy child... And I discovered my Penis. When the Bishop discovered that I discovered my Penis, I felt evil, hated myself and walked with my head down.

Now I walk with my head high, and I enjoy the natural order of my Penis.

Well, according to Mormonism, living prophets are exhaling scriptures on a regular basis. They are woody beating woody herders.

In a class on Adolescent Psychology, the professor, an American Jew who had moved with his family to Israel when he was 16, explained that masturbation or onanism was forbidden because in biblical times, the emphasis was on increasing the population and strength of the tribe.

Thus, anything that worked against that was forbidden. I would bet that all of the religious injunctions against such things as same sex relations or abortion or birth control or ..... would fall into that category.

Yes, maturation is forbidden to Mormons, and they are asked by their bishops if they maturate. And if so, when is the last time they maturated?

Nope, it's not. Masturbation is perfectly normal and healthy. And I LOVE IT! Yes, I said it.

I feel very sorry for anyone who actually believes that it's a "horrible sin." Sexual repression is bad for you!

I really, really hope the Bible is made up because if it's not I'm going to hell about 10,000 times over.
