What an unholy (and much deserved) mess TSCC currently finds itself in with regards to those they term ‘SSA’
- Gender is an eternal characteristic…. but past teachings have flipped 180 degrees so that TSCC now says people are in fact born gay…. yet the plan of salvation doesn’t appear to hold any place for gay members
- Same sex attraction now isn't a sin but acting upon it is. Gay members can remain in good standing but must be celibate. Where does that leave those in celibate gay relationships? Can such a couple attend church, sit together…show any mild affection etc?
- Prior advice that marrying members of the opposite sex would help ‘fix’ everything has largely been shown to be a misstep and has resulted in many marriage and family break ups, so this directive has been abandoned
- Previous efforts to change sexual orientation have been replaced with counsel to remain celibate and the promise that God will provide an opportunity for marriage in the next life, implying some sort of miraculous change in sexual orientation
- Harmful rhetoric of the past (Kimball, Packer et al) has largely been replaced with at least more outward compassionate concern, although actions and policies still diametrically conflict this and there's still mixed messages from current leaders
- TSCC proclaims not to enter the political arena but has been shown to support, fund and fight against prop 8 in California
- Vocal recognition and respect for the laws of the land (which now include gay marriage)….but doesn’t support it, sees it as a threat to the family and proclaims that it’s a step that requires automatic discipline (hence likely excommunication)
- Members that do marry someone of the same sex are now officially classed as apostates
- New rules that single out and restrict the children of gay members…. even causes concern among some TBMs, with people I know proclaiming it to represent nothing more than the misguided views old men and certainly not from God!
For so many years now this whole area has frankly been a complete clusterf**k for TSCC. How ironic that TBMs are quick to voice how they uniquely receive modern day revelation that is pertinent for our day, yet there’s missteps at every turn and they now find themselves painted into a corner.

One minor technical point -- the morg was fighting for proposition 8, not against it. Prop 8 declared that marriage was between one man and one woman.
The followers and adherents of M&G's now have to decide whether they are going to shite or get off the pot.

As far as TBMs go I only see one choice. They must claim all of this mess to be inspired by Heavenly Father, in which case they are admitting that their Mormon God is a wishy washy mess of a murderous dictator with no plan, and no heart.
