I love the early black and white episodes of Lost In Space. The settings are bleak and arid looking with black and thorny vegetation. You can watch Jonathan Harris gradually emerging as the prominent character. He's deliciously decadent and conniving. And the robot just gets funnier with each episode.
I don't really care for the garish colors and green plastic flora of the later episodes, but the dominance of the Dr. Smith, Robot and Will triumvirate is a joy to watch. And the later episodes feature some colorful guest villains. Strother Martin as a space miner was one of my favorites.
You forgot about the cliffhangers at the end of every episode! For being a black and white show they got suspenseful in a campy sort of way! It's too bad today's movies don't learn from Lost in Space, old school Doctor Who, old school Dallas, True Blood, 24, etc...on doing cliffhangers that leave people's mouth open! Instead we get the "duh" cliffhangers!
Found it on NetFlix. Pretty good series. If you like "Criminal Minds" you'll really like this. Two seasons. I'm on #11 of the first season in a week's time.
I remember this one episode when a goon chased James Garner into a men's room. Garner spilled a bunch of water on the floor, and when the goon rushed in he got sucker punched, lost his footing on the wet tiles, and went down on his ass.
And how about Angel? Doesn't everyone have a friend like him? He's the kind of guy you don't want sleeping on your couch until he finds his next crash pad. "Sorry, Jimmy, I got nowhere else to go." Next thing you know all your booze is gone and forget about keeping food in the cupboards. I have been to that mountain.
Rah-rah types like to think that Americans are different and would fight to the death to resist subjugation by an enemy but alas the reality is quite different. If the swastikas on the flag aren't enough to make you squirm the easy way some people are shown embracing fascism will...
