This guy won't be familiar to anyone from past the 70's but Paul Kantner, a Founding Member and Guitarist of Jefferson Airplane has died at Age 74.

Of all the hard rockers of my era, I loved Jefferson Airplane as much as any of them, part of that San Francisco sound. Always had a thing for Grace Slick.

I saw them in concert in SLC at the Terrace at Lagoon, probably about 1972. There were several bands playing that night but I don't remember the others.

I was a huge Jefferson Airplane fan back in the day...in my somewhat weed and booze addled memory of "the day". RIP Paul.

I always liked White Rabbit, Somebody to Love, Plastic Fantastic Lover, others as well.

Have to admit that it's been a long time since I've listened to them much. My old man music taste leans more now to jazz and world music etc.

If you are interested, just Wiki the Jefferson Airplane. So much history, fighting, breaking up, reforming. Grace Slick has a whole history of her own, apart from the band.

No idea what the song's about but love the title.

The song I sing in my head when I'm in Whole Foods is "Eat Starch Mom:"

Poison oak is a natural plant
Why don't you put some in your food?

Saw them many times but liked them best in the Papa John Creach period. He was such a professional that he focused the band back on the music.

There's a great video on YouTube: Jefferson Airplane at the Hall of Fame, 1996. The song was "Volunteers."

I also enjoyed another video of Grace and Paul talking about Jim Morrison. Ray Manzarek died in 2013, but he recorded a lot of memories as well.

Grace Slick was HOT. Loved both hearing and especially watching her sing.

The woman who was the original lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, Signe Anderson, also died this week, the same day as Paul Kantner. She was 74, same age as PK.

I admit I knew nothing of her and not sure I ever knew there was more than one.

She had a baby just as the group was getting started and voluntarily left, so Paul Kanter and Jack Casady picked Grace Slick as a vocalist.

I listened to a couple of songs from YouTube today with her as the vocalist and she was very good.

I saw Starship in concert in a little town in South Carolina in the early 80's. it was a surprise that they'd play such a small venue, but it was an awesome show!
