Not feeling well tonight. I have a cold which has gone to my chest and messed with my asthma.

Blood sugar was low -3.1- so my wife got me to take some sugar got me to eat and blood sugar is now 5.9.

I had a small bottle of Chang beer with my meal.

I think I will try to go to bed early.

What's your tipple?

Came home from work, felt very sleepy, went to take a little snooze.

Don't often go to sleep with my coat on but did today. Didn't occur to me until awoke from nap that even under blankets was still cold, and furnace not kicking on. Uh oh, whazzup wit dat, I wondered?

5:00 on a Friday night, the heating companies go into weekend mode. Rates double or triple for same service on weekend as weekdays. Please Lord, don't let me need a new furnace. I check thermostat. Batteries are officially kaput. New surge of hope, it just needs new batteries!

A trip later from Family Dollar, with new Duracell batteries securely in place, and it kicked back on. Thermostat is reset and heat is pouring back into abode once again.

Did I mention it is well below freezing this evening outside? Now I won't be freezing on the inside after a small investment in alkaline batteries.

Thank heavens for small favors.

As I await the resurgence of warmth in my home again, will be sipping from a cup of Chai tea or coffee to go with the Klondike ice cream sandwich I picked up from the dollar store. I ate that in my coat too. Ice cream in a cold house, wearing my down/rabbit fur parka?

Well stranger things have been known to happen. I'm just thankful for all the money I didn't have to spend on a furnace repair this weekend.

Maybe a sip of champagne later to greet the Shabbat.

Hope you get feeling better ASAP, Matt!

:)

Amyjo, could you get boiler insurance?

We have it and it has saved us thousands of Pounds over the years.

It covers an annual inspection and all parts and labour if the boiler needs a repair.

And thanks for the good wishes. ;o))

Lovely stuff.

Helped a good friend to move. This was his thanks to me.

Unlike all the bloody Mormons I've helped move when I was in the EQ. Got bugger all from any of them.

It was 16C (61F) here in S. Alberta Canada today. Canada. Febuary. 61 above. Christ, the weather has been stupid easy this winter but today was ridiculous.

What to do? Play hookey and drink beer on the deck. So we did. Original Six and Mill Street.

Now we're BBQing steaks and with that we'll drink a Syrah from the Limari Valley, Chile.

Human, kinda getting into this mandatory thread lately. Like Raptor's Sunday thread, it feels like recovery.

It was a beautiful day indeed Human. After I got home from coffee we sat on the deck and took in some rays.

Water. And a lot of it.

All thanks to being curious, I mean dumb, enough to try one of Burger King's new hot dogs. It may not be the worst food item I was ever burdened with, but it's close.

La Saucie and I are celebrating my cat's 21st birthday! We bought her some silly trinkets and a bottle of vintage Cherry Dr. Pepper, which she was gracious enough to share with us. It's good stuff!

Had a taste of Goose Island very drinkable "4 Star Pils" lager.
Medium hoppy, light body and very clean finish.

Two shots of Highland Park 12 year old to lighten the load.

Jimmy John's for supper. Meh, OK subs. Italian Night Club with hot peppers for me and Ms.Cakeordeath.

What really made the night so far is a Franzikaner Hefeweisse beer that feels like a loaf of sweet bread in my tummy.

I'm done.

Incidentally, Matt, What kind of blood sugar measurement do they use across the pond. Over here, it's milligrams per deciliter, so no Luddite American measures. But normal is 90 mg/dl and 110-120 mg/dl for us diabetics. 3.1 would pretty much mean that you would be flat-lining.

Tonight I'm running away from the dissonance i feel from my Mormon upbringing and my natural sexual proclivities by drinking a metric shit ton of rum. Instead of caving into repression or personal acceptance, I choose to vomit up my guts in the middle of the night.

Thank god I have therapy next week.

DW and I toured chandeleur brewing company (Gulfport, MS) and sampled the local crafty wares. Surprised to discover DW prefers porters and stouts after a couple years of largely ignoring the fruit of the barley. Finished off with a lovely dinner and time away from the kids. Came back home to learn we pawned off a night terror on the babysitter. YES! Double win for a Friday!

American Strong Ale Homebrew (9% abv)
Bitter almost copper/metallic front taste that is quickly subdued by a subtle malty sweetness. Touches of oak, caramel, nutmeg, hazelnut, and mild coffee. The back end brings in a hint of spice and pine from the mix of British and American hops to help get a clean finish. This rich, dark, but brown ale is not for the faint of heart.

Closest retail is Arrogant Bastard

I had some iced green tea, as well as an espresso shot. I found a candy store in Santa Monica, CA that has some Jack Daniels candy bars, and I got one with honey bourbon in it.

I didn't know there was such a thing as Jack Daniels candy bars...I bet they're good.

(I'm basing my guess on the fact that I like rum nougats from See's.)
