If my memory is correct, you are just a few miles East of me. I have only seen a couple of flashes, but there has been plenty of thunder, and lots of rain.
I remember one morning in San Diego during the mission when my comp and I awoke to hear rain outside. We both immediately jumped in the car and drove down to the nearby park, got out and stood in the rain for a solid 20 minutes just enjoying it.
I heard lots of fabulous thunder, but was too damn tired & lazy to get out of bed; time was when I would to get out of bed at 3 a.m. and go outside to enjoy a nice (not destructive) warm Santa Ana blowing. Magical.
I prefer to watch SoCal lightning on those rare August/September evenings when there's lightning but not much rain.
But I agree that it's nice to have actual *weather* happening instead of boring dry dry dry.
Might not seem like much to many, but we're glad to have it help with our drought. We ordinarily get that much rain a little here and there throughout all of March.
