"There are civil laws and divine laws and its up to us to reconcile the two.' Oaks

How do you reconcile the 'divine' Law of the Priesthood, with the well known fact that both Brigham Young and Joseph Smith violated it, and the 10 Commansments and the law of the land when they claimed their followers wives and teenage daughters as their own and raped them with their obscene power?

Until you reconcile that, you are no 'authority' on the subject of reconciling 'divine law' with the real law, so STFU about it until you do!

"There are civil laws and divine laws and its up to us to reconcile the two.' Oaks

You can't get a better example of self-righteous narcissism than this.

Oaks is Gods judge. God, apparently can’t reconcile his own divine laws so Oaks sits on the supreme court of divine laws.

What a turtle butt.

Clearly a last ditch effort coming from someone who know's he's on the losing end. What he doesn't understand is that bigotry and misogyny are SO last century. Society may not be perfect yet, but they are making advances in spite of organizations like the Mormon church.

Oaks is begging to have his point of view understood? What he doesn't know is that a kinder and more enlightened society understand his view very well and is for the most part rejecting it as they have moved past that shackled thinking.

Not everything in this life should be reconciled. You don't get in a pissing match with a skunk. When this very lovely apostle uses the word reconcile, that is Mormonspeak for deference and giving in to his personal agenda.

Why is he so worried? He has the priesthood. He has the most power on the face of the earth! Even deacons, twelve year old boys have more power than the President of the United States I was told by my leaders then.

Just use your power and quit whining Mr. Oaks.

"I advocate the same to this audience, believers and nonbelievers, and say let us pursue our goals with the civility that serves our citizenship and is obedient to our faiths".

Yes let's be civil and work together. As for obedient to faiths, go practice that under a theocratic state that demands obedience. Not a secular state that allows you the freedom of religion, even if that "faith" is demonstrably false.

Divine laws are unchangeable and eternal, so civil laws must change to accept them... They have been trying this tactic for years. So far they keep losing the biggies.

Polygamy - Repealed.
Law of Consecration - Repealed.
Separate but Equal - Repealed.
Gay Marriage - They haven't given up yet but they are losing.

You know what would be a good law to protect people from fraud?

Mandatory public financial reporting of all tax exempt non-profit organizations. All of these bogus charities out there that need to be held accountable. If you claim tax-exempt and claim to help people, what do you have to hide?

There are two kinds of white flags: the flag of surrender and the flag of truce. Oaks is calling for a truce.

The losing side in a battle is always the one in favor of a cease-fire; it's a chance to regroup and possibly plan a counter-offensive. Winning sides keep up the attack.

This is a plain but tacit admission by Oaks that the church is losing badly, and hurting. You can bet the house that if they were winning, he wouldn't be calling for reconciliation.

“When the two prove to be truly irreconcilable,” he said, “we should join with others of like mind in striving to change the civil law to accommodate the divine.” Oaks

Where in "divine law" does God command us to deny equal rights to people based upon their sex, sexual orientation or race?

Just a hint, if you believe in an imaginary God who condemns women, blacks and homosexuals, you believe in a false God.

The God real Christians believe in gave us a divine law, "Love your fellow men as yourselves."

Does that include women and minorities?

Did I stutter dumb ass?

This reminds me of a quote I heard from a Georgia lawmaker after the governor vetoed a pro-discrimination law masquerading as a freedom of religion law. He said, "How can we ask God to bless America when we cut God out?!" The logic's impeccable. It's just delusional. It's like yelling, "Purple unicorns and lucky rabbits' feet, Goddamnit!"

No. He said she had to do her elected duty. Oaks is about co-opting political power. Expect more alliances with Evangelicals, and more hippocracy. He opposed the Oregon occupiers too. He wants to embody the status quo, not start a revolution.

Turtle Butt is classic!!

Hey Turtle Butt remember these? You have the kiddos start memorizing them before they can talk. Pay special attention to #12.

He comes across as the playground bully. What culture war? He's the one doing all the hitting. He's like dude, please stop making me hit you.

Oaks is our man in the Q15. If anyone can keep the heat on TSCC by refusing to give an inch, it's him.

Oh, this one's rich:

“How would the great movements toward social justice in the United States, such as the abolition of slavery or the furthering of civil rights, have been advocated and pressed toward adoption if their religious proponents had been banned from participating on the issue by the assertion that private religious or moral positions were not an acceptable basis for public discourse or lawmaking?”

Yeah, what has LDS Inc. done for "the abolition of slavery or the furthering of civil rights"???

Was a douche.

Who's he complaining about here? The Constitution only protects his cult from governmental oppression. Ordinary citizens can freely disregard and mock everything he says, and loudly. That's what a free country is. What does he want? The government to intervene and make us treat him nice? The public isn't buying his hate-speech as coming from God, so what has that got to do with civil rights champions of the past?

Ironic statement given that the first "prophets" of the Church
HE represents SUPPORTED slavery with religious arguments. Both
Joseph Smith and Brigham Young quoted scripture to argue that
slavery was of divine origin and should not be abolished by
mankind.

Oaks is drunk on his own liquid legal logic
Latter-dazed doctrine distilled and ironic.

His mind mentally manipulating and masturbating
Judiciously as a Pharisee in robes imitating.

As Dallin Oaks is now, Elohim was once
So which of the two's the bigger dunce?

“we should join with others of like mind in striving to change the civil law to accommodate the divine.” Oaks

He is just so sure that he knows what God wants better than anybody else. Please, Dallin- when did God visit you? Time and date, please. And details. Was he alone, or did he have accomplices? What was he wearing? Did he have a beard? Approximate height and weight? you know- the usual facts needed to verify one's claims legally.

And in case you are wondering, strong feelings just don't cut it. I have strong feelings that Dallin is mistaken. So per his logic. since my string feelings have the force of law, he should be arrested for willful deception.

"Our differences must not be allowed to obscure the undeniable reality that we are fellow citizens who need each other."

1.No we do not need you, you are irrelevant and archaic.

2.Yes, we do need you. To step in front of a bus.
