On Sunday mornings, I'm in the habit of listening to Steve Novella's weekly podcast "Skeptic's Guide to the Universe," which I did again this morning. I highly recommend it, especially today, when we "could" be listening to GC.
What's it about? Among other things,
* Robert DeNiro & the Autism/Anti-vacc controversy.
* Vegetarianism and cancer.
* New research & discoveries into human genome/DNA analysis.
Plus some fun sections about science v. fiction, mysterious noises guessing game, and some interesting new (to most of us) words.
Their stated mission ("job") is to debunk pseudo-science. As I listened, I applied their scientific, logical and reasoned approach to the wild and supernatural claims of religion, specifically of Mormonism.
I can't think of anything worse than wasting time listening to the GC suits drone on and on about the lies of JS, and how to be happy by paying tithing.
And I can't think of anything better than listening to the stimulating discussions on SGU (www.theskepticsguide.org)
I'll probably write some more music, then maybe play some Fallout, read all the joke feeds on here, and then finish the day off watching Batman vs Superman with my coworkers.
Oh, yeah, and actually enjoy myself, rather than listening to the mindless droning of old men...
I'll be enjoying lightmindedness, loud laughter, evil speaking of the Lord's anointed, the taking of the name of God in vain, and every other unholy and impure practice.
Reactivated my itunes account today and Avril Lavigne popped up with these lyrics that resonated when I first stopped attending
All my life I've been good, But now whoa, I'm thinking what the hell All I want is to mess around And I don't really care about If you love me If you hate me You can't save me Baby, baby All my life I've been good But now Whoa What the hell
I am enjoying a nice Sunday off at the house with the kitty, the folks and a nice cup of Joe. I really don't have much plan today but I am thinking about watching some videos off of youtube and play one of my games.
To me, it's just a typical Sunday, relaxing with coffee, then going out to a nice lunch. Later, there will be a family birthday party for my niece who if she were being raised Mormon, would be about to be baptized. Instead, I can celebrate the fact that she's not being raised with the idea that she's a second class citizen because she was born the wrong gender to be worthy of being nothing more than a brood mare.
Coffee and conversation with a dear friend at Good Earth Coffee House...now home to do a bit of work on the antique Singer sewing machine cabinet I'm restoring...then back for afternoon coffee more pals.
Heading out into nature to track down some unknown creatures of the deep. Yesterday the fishing was terrible today I am hoping for better luck. Still beats watching GC.
