If I hear my mother say "Why don't you come back to church.", "*blank* misses you at church", "You should cut your hair and go back to church.", "Church?" I am going to go insane.

The correct responses are:

I would but I can't support an bigoted and racist organization.

I would but I don't want to follow the prophet and rape 14 year old girls.

I would but my sear stone in my hat told me not too.

I would but they would excommunicate me for apostasy.

I would but I would rather have a root canal done.

I would but they won't let me in my gym shorts and sleeveless shirt.

I would but I'm recovering from a hangover.

I would but I'd rather wait at the DMV

I like the seer stone reason best.

Do you always have to stay on the defensive?

Mom: Why don't you go to church?

You: Why don't you stop going to church?

Mom: Because . . .

You: And I respect your right to make that choice. I wish you would respect mine.

Can you find a hat and a smooth river rock? You could have a lot of fun at church showing how Joseph did the BoM "translation". And they might not be so keen on having you back.

Maybe I could translate a new book of scripture and just throw in and thus Moroni wrote "Don't nag your son to go to church"

I have never used it, but I always thought to use their own tactics against them:

"I have prayed about it and was told not to join any church."

You can make up anything without any need for proof as no one can verify what voices you are hearing in your head. Sound familiar.

Response: I'm worshipping according to the dictates of my own conscience, as the 11th Article of Faith states. You go ahead and worship according to the dictates of YOUR conscience.

This is a big problem with Mormons. They don't seem to think they need to live the 11th article of faith...

The mother needs to be asked? Why do you think saying those things will get me to go to a church I have no belief in? I don't ask you to stop going? Stop asking me to go.
Now lets agree to disagree and drop the subject.
