Does the TSSC still have missionaries in Venezuela?
If my child were a missionary in Venezuela I would do whatever I could to remove him.
Look at this video.

There are four missions listed for Venezuela, but when you look at them on PrepareToServe, there are no mishie blogs! I recall reading some years ago that American citizens can not go serve in Venezuela, something about the natives not liking Americans...

Venezuela Barcelona Mission
Venezuela Caracas Mission
Venezuela Maracaibo Mission
Venezuela Valencia Mission

Venezuela LDS Statistics (2015)
Church Membership: 164,048
Missions: 4
Temples: 1
Congregations: 268
Family History Centers: 42

-- Per these stats, each congregation has 612 members...

Too bad there are no stats re priesthood holders. Also, I wonder how much tithing the church receives from the congregations in Venezuela?

I went to the Caracas mission a few decades ago. It is an interesting country, destroyed by an egomaniac.

To my knowledge, there are no American missionaries in Venezuela now. Not because Venezuelans don't like them--they do--but because the country was driven in to the ground and became a dangerous place.

I should also point out that the crew from the video were filming in the worse neighborhoods. This is not typical of the country as a whole.

Like other countries which have seen the bottom, Venezuela will eventually recover, though the road will the long and likely violent.

The depravity involved in stealing from poor people, including their access to future growth, is very, very ugly. I hope the people of Venezuela find a better path, and I hope they recognize very early in their growth that organized religion is a luxury, not a necessity.

These guys are certainly being very sensational about the evils of socialism and the evils of banning guns from ordinary citizens and from security guards.

I don't buy it. There are many countries in Europe with socialist forms of government where there is no hyperinflation, or very low inflation. The standards of living in many European socialist countries is in fact very high. I know for a fact: I've traveled to Europe extensively on business and for vacation over the past 35 years. I lived in Germany for 2 years and never worried about my personal safety. I never saw any one, except the police, carrying guns in public. (Yes, most European countries have strict gun laws) There is a strong, secure middle class. People, generally speaking, are very happy and satisfied with their lives and their government.

I think the piece is propagandist in nature and is pushing for severe conservative values. Venezuela's problems today are more a result from their high dependence on oil for the vast bulk of revenues. As you know, in the last 2 years the price of oil has plunged and this source of revenue has pretty much dried up for Venezuela. This has lead to economic chaos and high inflation as the government is pumping money into the economy to try to keep it from collapsing.
