According to Mormon terminology, prophet is the person in the world who speaks on behalf of the God. He brings truth to this world and he is going to lead people to God. So, why the current prophet only stays in Utah speaking to members instead of going to places where he is really needed, like Iraq, he should go there to stop the war because he represents God?

Because he's a scam and has no idea on how to solve problems in the real word.

you have a very good point. Remember Paul?, shipwrecked three times, bitten by poisoness snakes, always in jail, no house to live in, even without proper clothes at times.

Stood up right in front of Mars hill and told everyone that they were wasting their time. That would be like An Apostle today getting up in front of the national debate and telling everyone it's stupid.

yes. you are right. All those prophets in the Bible went out to preach instead of sending so called missionaries to do the job. What the heck this Utah prophet is doing. He even cannot convert all people in the US.

To me, the bigger question is what have Mormon "prophets" prophesied recently? About the closest thing would be the Proclamation on the Family, but notice it's a proclamation--not a prophecy. They've also been outspoken on earrings, tattoos, and no to porn. But, are these prophecies or conservative opinions subject to change? (The Biblical Rachel had nose rings, I haven't heard a conference talk condemning her!). So when Mormons tell me they have a living prophet, I always ask, what has he prophesied about the future? The Boner.

I bet if someone asked him "President Monson, what is BYU?"...he'd look around the room and mumble something with a vacant look in his eyes.

I have not associated with Mormons since the summer of 2014. Their only recent claim to me was about Monson's revelation about lowering the missionary age requirements. The Proclamation of the Family was also thrown in there too.

Truth be told, Monson may not even be aware that the age was lowered. It's been well over one hundred years since an authoritative "thus saith the lord" revelation was given. I'm sure the change was the result of majority agreement of the other fourteen apostles after computerized analysis of future missionary demographics. Today's leaders are not men of God. They are mere business men who oversee and control Joseph Inc. by board agreement like all large corporations.

If lowering the missionary age, or banishing children of LGBT married couples is "revelation"..... sad....

He works more like bug repellent. Spray a little here and there, and people are repelled rather than drawn toward the "light."

Young mishes are more effective because they haven't had time to develop the same coatings of teflon Monson and others before him have.

If he were to go "out into the world" he would effectively repel far more potential converts than he'd gain. Why risk that? People are savvy enough in the marketplace to know when they're being hoodwinked by a male shrew selling a bogus religion.

The LDS gospel is built on a contrived, false doctrine. Publicize it too much to the wrong audience and it only backfires on the messenger/s. Best to leave well enough alone is most likely their candied approach to going out into the world and spreading "the word."

Because...that would take courage and actual results.

Best to just stay put in Utah, surrounded by sheep who are satisfied with hearing god's views about being obedient.

Fact is tscc has never had a profit...when you see joes opportunism...maneuvering..controlling...deceit and just plain pulling stuff outta his ample ass...he was no prophet...smart maybe...imaginative maybe...read a few books maybe...but just a huckster conman bent on the good life just like these jokers today...if Tom farted at conference fair and farms would rush in to interpret the spread pattern...hell id venture the long island medium gets more hits than any mormon ever...its just laughable to imagine any mormon ever having any answers to world problems...hell look at the mess Utah is in...yet mormons would love to see a world like that...cronyism...nepotism...all those other isms...time to give the head a shake

The Hebrew word for prophet is "nabi," which has connotations of springing, bubbling forth like a desert spring, basically means "to proclaim." The Biblical prophets proclaimed God's word, which involved foretelling the future rather rarely. Mostly it was calling people to repentance, and to forsake false gods, which they did to their own risk, suffering, and peril.

It's also worth noting they preached to those within and outside the "community of faith" (Hebrews, OT; Christians, NT). (Good point about Paul on Mars Hill, Poopstone.)

BYUBoner, how do we know Rachel had nose rings? LDS chapel art?

I've heard, somewhere, that a prophet is God's emissary (down) to human's, and a priest is Mankind's intercessor (up) to God. Jesus was unique in that he filled both roles. Similarly he is both Sovereign and Servant.

Tommy boy can't go to the bathroom let alone Iraq. He has NEVER talked to God. He has talked to Lucifer [if there is a Lucifer] and if not, then he has communed with evil forces of some kind because he positively reeks of evil and the EVIL CULT is 100% evil.

From a conversation long ago and not far away:

Me: What has your current prophet prophesied?

Mother: He's told us to read the Book of Mormon

Sadly, the above is no joke. It really happened and continues to baffle me to this day. A Mormon will count a book recommendation as prophecy as easily as she'll believe that finding her car keys was a miracle. This is a phenomenon outside my understanding, this desire to entertain any fantasy promoted by groupthink.

find/read Profiles of a Prophet in the Ensign or online; It spells out 11 criteria for assessing the validity of a 'prophet's" claim(s).

by Hugh B. Brown, I believe was a FP counselor.
I 'can't believe' they still (recently) have published this!!!!

TSM: by a stretch, he scores 1 or perhaps 2.
