When I was in high school I believed in paranormal stuff. I
bought a Ouija board. I could never get it to do anything. It
flat-out didn't work for me.

My brother (now an institute director) was attending BYU at the
time. He took it with him when he went back after christmas
break or something.

At BYU the dorm he was in has built-in dressers. The back of
your dresser was built into the wall with a sheet of plywood
separating your dresser from the next room's dresser. People
had drilled holes in this plywood and could push out the
drawers in the dresser in the next room.

So my brother and a friend were in the room of a third guy who
was creeped out by Ouija boards. He came into the room while
they were using it. He asked if it said anything. "Yes," my
brother said, "we asked it if the Church was true. It said it
would give us a sign."

At that moment the guy in the next room pushed a rod through
the hole in the plywood partition and the drawer containing the
guys garmies comes sliding out "all by itself."

His eyes turn into saucers. At that point my brother and his
friend break out laughing giving away the joke. Had they shut
up about it he would have believed it to this day and would be
telling the Ouija board story (properly embellished) to
firesides to this day.

Then my brother went on his mission and came back a much less
fun-loving person.

That's how the boards really work. My story was similar.

I guess using those back-to-back, built-in dressers in the BYU dorms for that purpose has been done quite a bit. Other posters have shared similar stories on RfM in the past.

Maybe that's why they tore down those dorms and built new ones: two many "evil-spirit" experiences!

There is AMPLE room for being "played" by your friends with these things. I would never believe it, no matter how convincing, unless it was my own board, in my own house, on the floor and nobody allowed to touch it. But then again, I would never purposely INVITE something like that into my house anyway.

I don't think about spirits, and I've never had any interaction with any. That's just the way I like it.

Last time I used a Oija board, there was all kinds of problems.

We had to involve some catholic priests. There was something about Mr. Howdy. And split pea soup everywhere.

Everything was a mess. Worst of all, I don't remember most of it because I was so distracted by beds jumping around and making the cross my girlfriend.

I don't recommend using Oija boards at all. It's a board game that causes family drama second only to Monopoly.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I love this. We had more fights over Monopoly when I was growing up than about almost anything other than Scrabble because we could never agree on which dictionary was the official arbiter of wordness.

I've never used a Ouija board. I believe in spirits and it's one of those things I just don't want to mess with.

I took a tarot class once to teach you how to do it. I didn't feel particularly inspired while giving a reading, but I blew the minds of the people I gave readings to. Apparently I was scarily accurate. I never had an accurate reading done on me though.

Much like Mormonism or any other religion, Ouija boards do indeed work.
