In order to be Mormon you have to ignore:
#1. The FACT that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young married, and fathered children with their follower's wives (Zina Jacobs) and teenage daughters (Helen Mar Kimbal, a few months shy of 15). That's what got Warren Jeffs thrown in jail for the rest of his life on multiple child rape convictions.
#2. The FACT Joseph Smith raped teenage orphan Sisters who he was entrusted with raising as his and Emma's own daughters (the Lawrence Sisters). That's child rape, of orphans for Christ's Sake!!!
#3. As if that's not enough, they have to ignore the FACT that they teach their children to sing the praises of rapists.
#4. They send their children to a University named after a rapist, where they slut shame women for exposing their shoulders, which makes it open season on women, because everybody knows what happens to gum once it's chewed, or cupcakes, once they're licked. They get expelled and suffer with shame and guilt for the rest of their lives. Or until they get even. Like the brave women who are now coming forward in droves, quite publicly. They're the real heroes the church should be applauding instead of shaming. I'm glad the rest of the world gets to see the sickness that is Jospeh's Myth. By their fruits shall ye know them. And there's no shortage of the rotten fruits of Joseph's Myth.

TSCC has been obsessed with pornography for decades. It's the misguided assumption that pornography leads to the devil taking over your mind. And once that happens, you'll leave TSCC in the dust.
But as koriwhore points out, there's literally thousands of FACTS that cause people leave. And viewing porn has never been one of them.
Someone once posted a link on pornography from 1972 in some church magazine several months ago here. We know that they've been obessed with it for 40 years+++ and still is!
If you can control the most basic, primitive instincts of a person, you can control the person easily. It's ALL control. Most cults use sexuality as a control mechanism (of course it has the added bonus of easy sex with young girls). Virtually all religions are obsessed with controlling sexuality
Especially the three posts above (danielson, flaming sword, and anybody). It is essential for cults to create terrible enemies. That way, the members are preoccupied with "The War Against (Insert the Enemy of the Day Here).
The members are not worrying about those little inconsistencies and oddities in the church history. Or conflicting rulings by the inspired leaders. Or where the money *really* goes. They are too caught up in the righteous struggle to control (Insert the Enemy of the Day Here).
And it is so true that if you want total control of people's minds, you control their most intimate and private actions. If you can do that, you own the membership totally.
It's also rather ingenious, since ultimately very, very few people can rein in their sexual appetites to the point in which they comply with the high, high bar they have set. They are also taught that it is achievable if they're holy enough. However, almost everyone fails and they are taught to blame themselves for their weakness with the result that it deflects the blame away from LDS, Inc.
It's a very efficient and effective way to control people. I don't think some diabolical person dreamed this up, rather, it evolved over time in groupthink fashion. The leaders are just as delusional as the sheeple.
One of the biggest weapons the church has had in its arsenal is threatened by porn.
Namely:
Raise kids up to believe sex is evil, sinful, disgusting, horrible, to be avoided at all costs. Surround them with a tattling culture and subject them to invasive interviews so that the slightest inclination towards sexual behavior is caught, smashed, and turned into a guilt trip.
Let their natural sexual tension build up and build up with no release, send them off on missions to make it even worse, then bring them home -- they're so ready to pop that they'll temple-marry the first faithful LDS who winks at them, they'll start pumping out the next generation of mormon youth, and the cycle repeats itself again.
Easily available internet porn threatens all of that. It lets faithful mormon youth sit privately in their bedrooms, whacking off to (largely fake and often ridiculous) pictures of naked people. The cycle is stopped.
Wow...that is so on-target! I've seen it happen many times: RMs in no way prepared to earn a living, immediately get married post-mission and begin pumping out little TBMs...and living with Mom & Dad in order to survive!
They need a war with something evil. They lost the war on same sex marriage and they are moving on to another front to rally against and sound the battle cry. What else are they going to fill their boring meetings and conferences with?
It's to keep people afraid of, and off the internet.
Porn is the least of things that can be found on the internet that could damage a TMB's testimony.
In fact, I see no reason that being allowed to view/ indulge in porn should affect a persons testimony. You'd probably just end up with happier TBM's....all parties consenting of course. If they weren't being told how wrong and evil it is, they wouldn't be worried about it.
