I just can't believe that anyone (uber/super/mormon or apostate) wouldn't believe what this woman is saying and see the chicanery that was so prevalent in the church at the time.

No wonder the authorities want people to stay away from the internet.

It's rather stunning, isn't it? I can't see how a Mormon could read it and stay faithful. I could only take it in small doses. Shame on Brigham for taking "wives" that he could neither take a great interest in nor support. He pretty much told Eliza that she was on her own when it came to a livelihood. How nice for him.

Read it last year and it became one of maybe a dozen books I read by various exmo's. It was the real catalyst for my present stance of never-again-be-a-mo. Very good book IMHO.

I'm reading it right now as well. Very interesting and sad book. Learning the history of the church really makes me sick that I used to view the leaders as saints.
