The other day, my son and his two sons were visiting, and we went to Santa Monica pier. There is a sign on the pier that says "Route 66".

I thought it might be fun to have a picture of me in front of the sign, since I turn 66 today. But I decided against it because below the "66" it says "The end of the line."

Yesterday, I came to Orange County, to visit my other grandchildren, and to celebrate my birthday. I was lifting my five-year-old granddaughter out of her car seat, and I noticed she was heavier than I expected.

I fake-groaned and told her she was "such a big girl now," or else it was because I was so old.

"How old are you Papa?" she asked.

"I'm older than Santa!" I said. She giggled and added "NO ONE is THAT old!"

"Thanks, sweetie!"

Gettin' my Papa kicks at 66.

When my grandkids ask how old I am, I tell them when I was a kid rainbows were still in black and white.

Happy birthday!

In agreement it isn't the "end of the line," not yet by a long shot.

But getting your pic taken next to the sign on maybe another day?

:)

1. 66 is NOT old.
2. Santa isn't born yet.
3. Santa Monica and Chicago, related to the beginning and end of Route 66 was used by a serial killer relating murders together.

Santa Monica Pier is also the beginning of the line if you're going east. But there are far worse places to end up than leaning against the railing, gazing at the ocean, smelling the mix of sea air and burgers, feeling the surf shaking the pier.

Good point Stray. I'll just turn around & face East. But not till I've had my fill of Cali's ocean air & hamburgers!

You are a spring chick! I work in older adult living and we have a resident turning 103 in 2 weeks!

DH just turned 60 and you would have thought it was the end of the world. Age is just a number. You're as young as you act and think.

PS I love Route 66.

My granddaughter asked me once how old I was and I replied

"....so old I am farting dust". She hasn't asked lately

Happy birthday! I'm one year up on you, so I am proof that 66 is no the end of the line. Not even close.

Happy birthday. Im just a few months behind you.

My granddaughter doesn't seem to care about age. She pets my white hair and says "pretty". She really likes it when I add a lavender strand or two. She wants to touch my hair a lot. I'm good with that. I do the same thing with her. She has the shinest soft dark hair. It feels like silk with soft curls at the end.

Someday she may realize i'm just an old lady. I think it will be ok though because i'll be an old lady who loves her dearly. I hope that's what she remembers most about me. That, and we spend a lot of time reading books and looking at a LOT of flowers. She really loves flowers.

Happy Birthday! 66 is an age not everyone gets to experience! Many of my family did not!
Those grand kids are amazing! The youngest in my family is a great grand daughter just 9 months and I've had to sit down to hold her!
Gone are the days of carrying two toddlers around with one on the way! (Thank goodness!)
Get your "kicks on 66" !! It's all good!

When asked her age by a grandchild my (then 64) grandmother said she was 104. Just for fun and because 64 might as well be 104 to a kindergartener. But the older grandkids thought it was hysterical and we never let her forget. Every year after that we sent cards and made cakes that said 105, 106, etc. We did that her whole life! She even got a Sweet 116 cake! (She was a good sport.)

Happy birthday.
